I love to sew, and used to do professional dressmaking. To see some examples of my
work, check out my portfolio. For some wonderful inspiration, check out Threads magazine. I like SewBaby
and Elizabeth Lee Nursing Designs for patterns. I have made her patterns many times over, as I like to wear dresses, and to be able to have nursing dresses is great. Do you have a baby, or are you expecting one? Then come and join the The Nursing Mother's Sewing List. And, if you use or are planning to use cloth diapers, check out Debi's Sew Your Own Diapers before you buy any. She inspired me to make my own How To pages.
If you are an Issey Miyake fan (I'm a big one), you'll probably love The Sewing Workshop's patterns. Diane Ericson's Re-Visions patterns are really neat, and her site is very inspiring for those of you who like to embellish and stencil your garments. Purrfection Artistic Wearables has many things to make your mind race: stamps, stencils, patterns galore! Be sure to browse through the gallery (oooh, the kanji coat is fabulous!) And check out Firstview to see recent collections from various designers.
Some neat sites for fabric are Eastwind Art (they have beautiful oriental fabrics) and The Secret Workshop. Hemptraders has all sorts of hemp and hemp blend fabrics. They will send free samples. Silk Road Fabrics carry high quality natural fibers, organic cotton, and tencel. Check them out!
I have also taken up knitting and would love it if anyone would pass on some good sites. I have found one,
Wool Works, which looks pretty good. I haven't
knit any pattern from it yet, but have found a few I would like to try. I finally finished a sweater for my husband, it won a blue ribbon in our state fair. Not bad for my third sweater! A great site to bookmark if you are into knitting socks is the Socknitters Page. There are lots of lessons (like how to do the dreaded kitchener stitch--with photos!), links, and a great mailing list. Check this site out to learn how to make socks: Socks 101. It's loaded with step by step pictures, taking you through each step of knitting a sock.
