"Singer/songwriter Neil Young is sometimes visionary, sometimes flaky, sometimes both at once. He has maintained a large following since the early Seventies with music in three basic styles- solo acoustic ballads, sweet country rock and lumbering hard rock, all topped by his high voice- and he veers from one to another in unpredictable phases. His subject matter also shifts from personal confessions to allusive stories to bouncy throwaways. A dedicated primitivist, Young is constantly proving that simplicity is not always simple."

Neil was a huge influence on my guitar style. I learned how to play all his tunes, mimicing his choppy flatpicking and personal angst. I've taken alot of crap from people who can't hear the genius behind his falsetto voice. But it has never shaken my admiration of this musical chameleon. I first saw him in concert at the Capitol Center with Steve Stills on the Long May You Run tour, which was cut short just afterwards due to the titanic clash of their egos. I also saw his solo tour at UCSB in Santa Barbara, CA, with the big furniture and TV set. The coolest part, outside of the music, was the intermission, when they put an old episode of Star Trek, the one where Kirk recites the e plab nista, otherwise known as The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States. It was this tour that spawned the movie Rust Never Sleeps.
