Are you and your horse so close to each other and somehow read each other’s minds? Being with on certain horse for a long time you learn to adapt to each other’s ways, you start knowing what your horse wants and they start knowing what you want.

There are ways to test if you and your horse have this special bond. If you let him/her loose in a pasture or large arena where will they go if not told to go anywhere? If you walk away but talk to the horse while doing so what will he/she do? If you fall will he/she stop or keep going? When you are visible to the horse for the first time that day what does he/she do? All these questions are things not all of us think of when walking up to our horses, but test them and see how your bond is with your horse. If he/she stays by your side all the time then you know the bond is strong.

Why do horses do this? Well in the way of the wild two horses that have bonded will stay side by side threw the voyages and when resting the would lay their heads on each other’s backs as a sign of adornment. So don’t be surprised when your horses rests his/her head on your shoulder at a halt.

Some breeds such as the Arabian will work till death if their partner asks. They were common in the deserts for their hard effort threw the sands. This is why you must understand and know your horse and feel when they are tired or a tragic thing may happen.

If you and your horse lack this bond don’t worrie! Sometimes these things just take longer for others. Spend time with your horse. By spending time I’m not suggesting ride more, but just go out to him/her more often and give him/her a nice groom. I find this handy when the weather is bad.
