ODE TO THE MY BEST BOY

O the beauty of God's creation embodied in this blue merle four footed creature.
The flow of your gait, the symmetry of your structure;
A veritable masterpiece by the Creator of the creative!
You have defined the greatness of your kind
And have passed that on to your offspring;
Who, in turn, honored you by being champions among their peers
And agents for the perpetuation of your greatness.

O the divine blessing bestowed on you and those who knew you.
Your flashing blue eyes and happy spirit;
Your love of life and command of everyone's appreciation;
Your strength, your reproducible soundness, your agelessness;
Your desire to please, your affable character;
Intimidator to those who came against you;
Awe-inspiring to those who drew close;
The solitary choice for those with judgment;
A special among specials, confirmed over and over.
A sire among sires, proven time and again.

But to me,
Your owner and caretaker,
I, yes, I was the one truly blessed by God.
O what privilege to have been your closest friend, the one in whom you trusted.

He had full dentition and perfect scissors bite until the day he died, OFA certified at 3 yrs. old and again at 9 yrs. old, first Australian Shepherd to be PennHip checked -- received PennHip certification 1987, produced 99+% dysplasia free offspring, final ophthalmologic exam and clearance February, 1996 by Dr. Rubin. Through his offspring, the Australian Shepherd will continue to be made sounder genetically and structurally. This is the essence of greatness to excel in performance and personality and then also to excel in reproducing it over and over again. They say to have known one great dog in your lifetime is a real blessing. Truly, I've been blessed, because Chips was that great dog!!!
