• This study was done in order to answer and respond to questions and comments that were presented to me. My response you will find in red.
• 1 Tim. 2:9-12-9. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;

Some women may say "Well, I don't wear fancy clothes or makeup for fix my hair gaudy." But when you look at these women and they have on a pair of shorts or pants can they honestly use that scripture and say that's what their following. I think not. Why doesn't the church preach on modest apparel anymore. You can tell that they don't because women who claim to be Christian dress unmodest and don't think twice about it. I know that the usual cop-out is that we don't want to offend them and stop their growth. The truth of the matter is that the only way they are going to grow is to stop giving them milk and start giving them meat.

• MODERATION Self-control; calmness; temporateness (Phil. 4:5). The underlying Greek term is used in parallel with kindness (2 Macc. 9:27). Modern translations read forbearance (RSV), forbearing spirit (NASB), gentleness (NIV, NRSV), and "consideration of others" (REB).
• 1 Sam 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

Mat 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

Mat 23:28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

Mat 23:29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

Mat 23:30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

• The above comments remind me of the Pharisees, hypocrites, because ye build your temples ( your body is the temple ) as tombs. You do all the right things on the outside but deny the important things on the inside.
• Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:

Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

• If the outside looks ok by the denominational stands and the heart isn't right what good is it? None. It's not what you say you are but what you really are that counts in the heart. When the heart is right the rest is right.
• 2 Cor 10:7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.

1 Tim 2:10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

1 Tim 2:11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

1 Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

1 Tim 5:10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work.

1 Pet 3:1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

1 Pet 3:2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.

1 Pet 3:3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

1 Pet 3:4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

1 Pet 3:5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

• The wife was to win her husband by obedience. She was to act like a Christian and not like the world full of rebellion.
• Mat 23:25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Mat 23:26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

• Seems like good advice to me. We should live what we preach.
• Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

Mat 23:3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

Mat 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

• Does the load we place on people by our laws and rules get heavier than what Christ places on us. We are to help bear one another not weight them down.
• John 6:28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

Rom 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

Rom 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

Rom 3:29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

Rom 4:6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

Rom 9:31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

Rom 9:32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;

Rom 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Rom 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

Gal 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

Gal 2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.

Gal 2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

Gal 5:23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Gal 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Gal 5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

• Heres the key we do the inward work which results in an outward work but not provoking, or envying or vain glory, but to lead to Christ.
• Gal 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Gal 6:2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

• If we would remember our role is to restore and not destroy one another we might see more people living according to the word. Why should you expect others to comply to what the church hasn't yet learned, to love one another.
• Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

2 Tim 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

• We not only try to pick our calling but everyone else's too. Is that what the word says for us to do?
• James 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.

James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

James 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

James 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

James 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

Rev 2:19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

Rev 2:20 Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Rev 2:21 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

Rev 2:22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

Rev 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Rev 2:24 But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

Rev 2:25 But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

• Modest Having or showing a moderate estimation of one's own talents, abilities and value. Having a shy and retiring nature: reserved. Observing conventional proprieties in speech, behavior or dress, Quiet and humble in appearance: unpretentious. not extreme,
• I feel that one must not take out of context the real message of what Peter was saying. There was a problem in the church the women were not all married to Christian men or men who would go to church with there wife's, The temples of the day often had women which were dressed in gay and gaudy apparel in order to lure the men. Peter tells the wives to dress in a manner which would win there husbands to Christ and not have them look upon there wives in the same way that they looked upon the temple harlots. The mode of jewelry and dress and there conversations were to be that which would edify Christ. This does not really define what a modest dress is, nor does it intend to limit what would be pleasing to the husband, It was intended to say don't look like the Harlot but look like a Christian. But what does a Christian look like? Do they dress a certain way? I believe that it is not the outward adorning but the inward. If we believe that we are in the Sprit and are led by the Sprit and are taught by the Sprit then why would the Sprit not condemn us if we are not right? It is not the churches job to condemn but to teach that a Godly life will lead to a closer walk. You can not dress to conservative to please God, but what God really wants is a conservative heart which results in not only dress but in every part of our lifes. We are not saved or even made better Christians by our works, but we are better wittiness by our works, not to wittiness of our selves but to demonstrate and attitude of Love, joy, etc.
• But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

Their was a time when women were ashamed when they didn't dress modestly. The women who did profess godliness dressed modestly. Now the women who are not dressing modestly are professing godliness. Are they confused about what is right and what is wrong or have they even been taught and if they haven't been taught then who's fault is that. We are all taught by the Holy Spirit and their is only one Holy Spirit and he doesn't change his teaching from one person to the next. So if the Holy Spirit taught me what modest apparel is then I know he must have taught other women as well. But too many times I'm seeing so called Christian women who act as if they haven't been taught that yet. There are no excuses for rejecting the Holy Spirit and what He teaches you.

• Once again as by the verses already given what was the Goal? That a witness be made. If we become radical in our dress or behavior we do not draw people to us or to Christ, we say to them that what we have brings us into a bondage, Our dress should not be gaudy, whorish in style, allowing those private (unseemly areas ) to be visible. Again the whole purpose is to say to the husband and world that I am different but not ridiculous, I am clean but not self righteous, I am holy but not holier than thou. If I dress in a fashion which causes people to approach me negatively than I haven't been a testimony, If I dress in a way that says different but different because of the fact that it is not sensual but clean it will be accepted. Yet we must ask God to convict, not me. I believe that a woman or man should dress in a way that shows dignity, and pays honor to the occasion. Church should be respected, so I feel a dress looks better but the Bible doesn't say that. Only my opinion.
• Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

How many women are usurping authority over the man? It's self explanatory.

• Usurp to seize and hold or take over power, rights or possession illegally. Gods plan was for a wife to obey her husband even as the church is to obey Christ. It is his plan that the wife have the authority allowed her by her husband even as the church is allowed certain rights by Christ. Yet if and when Christ says no he expects obedience, the same for the wife. Often wife take on them selves the authority of the husband in decisions that have not been given them, or in the church they will often begin to make the business decision by voting against their husbands. The wife only has that authority given by her husband.
• 1 Cor. 11:13-15

13. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

• Often we intrepid the Word to meet our thoughts, The Bible says whatsoever we do in word or deed do all for the glory of God. Unfortunately the Bible does not define Long but it teaches that the way we dress or conduct ourselves should be as such that would edify God and his church. We know that the costumes of the world should help us to understand the difference, how does the world receive the testimony you portray? We are to reprove and rebuke the world, to reform the things of the world in our lives. John says that if the Spirit is in us we can not sin, So then I trust the Bible and the Spirit to teach me and rebuke me. I have never met a Christian that was not studying the word, faithful in church, a strong pray life that dressed are acted like the world. If we would spend more time teaching prayer, and study the Lord will do the convicting. If we would show people that to walk in the Spirit is to deny the wants of the carnal world we would not spend near as much time trying to beat them into subjection. I have found that through God teaches us to walk in a fear he teaches us to lead through love and example. For love casth out all fear, thus when I walk in love I need not have to worry I won't do anything which would hurt my church, my friends, or my Christ and if I fail God lets me know and I seek his forgiveness, For I live not to do my will But Gods.
