Stones and Rocks

(John 1:42 KJV) And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.

(Mat 16:18 KJV) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

(1 Cor 10:4 KJV) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

A STONE, A ROCK,

Stones are just small rocks.

Who is the Rock? Not Peter he is just a stone, (Cephas) Jesus the Christ is the Rock. It is not upon Peter that the church is built but upon Jesus.

Rocks have there place in our every day life's, they are used for many useful tools, etc.

Stone used for a knife

(Exo 4:25 KJV) Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

Stone used for a marker

(Gen 31:45 KJV) And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

Stone used as an altar

(Exo 20:25 KJV) And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

Stone used as a seat

(Exo 17:12 KJV) But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

Stones wrote upon

Moses goes up into the mountain

(Exo 24:12 KJV) And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them.

Stones used as weapons

(1 Sam 17:49 KJV) And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.

(Deu 13:10 KJV) And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

Stones used to repair house's

(2 Ki 22:6 KJV) Unto carpenters, and builders, and masons, and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

Some stones are of beauty

(Exo 24:10 KJV) And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness.

(Gen 2:12 KJV) And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

Stone used as a seal

(John 20:1 KJV) The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

All stones are not of the same quality

(Amos 5:11 KJV) Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.

So then we see that all tones are not the same

(Deu 32:31 KJV) For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

Indeed the world does not understand or recognize the rock of our salvation is not the same, it is hardened rock not soft sand stone.

Rock as a shield

(2 Sam 22:3 KJV) The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

We are allowed to hide in the Rock

(Exo 33:22 KJV) And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:

WE are to stand upon our rock, above the storms and above the mud of this world

(Exo 33:21 KJV) And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:

(Ezek 26:4 KJV) And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock.

For our Rock is our foundation:

(Mat 7:24 KJV) Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

(Mat 16:18 KJV) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

When we stand on the rock we can not fall

(Mat 7:25 KJV) And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

Not an image of God should we be are build but God wants the real thing.

(Lev 26:1 KJV) Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the LORD your God.

God wants us to drink from the spiritual Rock

(1 Cor 10:4 KJV) And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Which will lead to a heart change

(2 Cor 3:3 KJV) Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshly tables of the heart.

So indeed let us be Cephas's and let us be good building stones that we build a fitfully joined church not out of one stone but on one rock with many stones. Take a Cephas and keep it in your purse on your desk in your pocket to remind you that we are but Gods stones to be used to Build.
