"THE RULES OF THE GAME"
James 1:17-27
PUPPETS: Mom & Sally

MOM: Sally, what was going on last night?

    SALLY: Oh, nothing, Mom.

MOM: Now, come on, Sally. I heard you talking to the other girls in a loud voice and you don't do that unless you are upset.

SALLY: Mom, I just couldn't believe it.

    MOM: Couldn't believe what, Sally?

SALLY: Well, we were playing this game and Lucy moved her marker and it wasn't right. So I told her, "you don't know the rules".

MOM: That was a bold move. What did Lucy say?

SALLY: She said, "that's the way we always play it at home" And as she said that Amber took a turn and landed on the space marked, "You lose ten points". Sharon, the scorekeeper didn't substract any points from her score.

    MOM: That does sound strange.

SALLY: And when I told them they needed to substract 10 points, they told me they always skipped those penalty points. That's when I got upset and told them that it was no fun playing this way.

MOM: That would be no fun at all.

SALLY: Well, some of the other girls said they might as well quit too. Then Suzy spoke up and said they could either quit or play by the rules of the person who made the game rather then playing by our own rules. I pointed out there was a rule sheet in the box.

MOM: That's good, Sally. How did it turn out?

SALLY: Well, Amber looked at Suzy and said, "Good idea". Soon the game was again in progress, with frequent references being made to the rule sheet.

MOM: Well, Sally, what did you learn from all this?

SALLY: I learned that it's important to play by the rules.

MOM: Well, that's a good lesson to learn, I wish everybody would learn that.

    SALLY: Not everybody plays games.

MOM: Well, in a way they do. Everybody plays the "Game of Life" If we'd follow the rules of the One who invented it, this would be a happier world. Do you know who I'm talking about?

SALLY: (nodding) God. He gave His rules in the Bible. Everybody ought to follow them.

MOM: How about you boys and girls? Do you know God's rules. Do you follow them, or do you change them to suit yourself?

SALLY: We need to refer to His "rule sheet", the Bible, so we know what He says.

MOM: But knowing isn't enough. You need to follow His rules, to do what He says as well. See you later Sally.

SALLY: Bye everyone. See you next week.
