PUPPET SCRIPT

By Louise Ferry

"COUNTING THE STARS"
Psalm 19
PUPPETS: Chris & Sally

(Chris enters and looks up at the sky. She points and begins to count slowly)

    CHRIS One, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (continues counting as Sally enters).

SALLY: [enters and looks at Chris, then at the sky, then at Chris, and then at the sky again] Hey, Chris!

    CHRIS: (continues counting). . . 12, 13, 14 . . . (keeps pointing and counting).

SALLY: (looks back and Forth between Chris and the sky then calls loudly) Hey, Chris?!

    CHRIS: (continues to slowly count). . . 20, 21, 22.

SALLY: (taps Chris on shoulder and shouts)] CHRIS!

CHRIS: 20. . . 20. . .20? Oh, rats! (Turns to Sally disgustedly) Now look what you've done! I've lost my place. What do you want, Sally?

SALLY: Oh, I was lust wondering what you are doing.

CHRIS: What does it look like I'm doing? I'm counting-and you made me lose count!

    SALLY: Oh. Sorry about that.

CHRIS: (turns her back to Sally and points to the sky and starts counting again) One, 2, 3, 4, 5 . . . (continues counting).

SALLY: (looks back and Forth between Chris and the sky) Chris? (Chris stops counting but continues pointing at the sky)

SALLY: (taps Chris on the shoulder again) Hey, is there anybody in there?

CHRIS: (continues to point at the sky as she answers) What?!

    SALLY: What are you counting?

    CHRIS: I am trying to count the stars. 12, 13, 14, 15 .

SALLY: Ahem! . . . Excuse me, Chris?

CHRIS: (puts her hand down and turns to Sally with a big sigh) What, Sally?

SALLY: Well, I hate to ask this, but why are you counting stars?

CHRIS: I am trying to count them because I read on the Internet that we can see almost 3,000 stars without binoculars. I want to see if it's true. (Starts counting again.) One, 2, 2, 4..

SALLY: (looks up at sky) The stars sure are beautiful, aren't they?

CHRIS: (stops counting but continues to look up) Yeah, they sure are.

SALLY: And just think, God made every single one of them. (Points to the sky) He made that one, and that one, and that one over there. (Pause.) There are millions of stars in our galaxy, you know. And no one really knows how many other galaxies there are maybe billions. And God made each and every one of them. (Both girls continue looking up.)

    CHRIS: Billions?

SALLY: Yeah. Want me to help you count them?

CHRIS: No, let's lust admire them.

SALLY: How about you boys and girls? What part of God's creation seems most awesome to you? Each time scientists develop a stronger telescope, they discover more stars. What does this tell you about God's power. Is it more important to be able to see and count stars, or to appreciate them?
