PUPPET SCRIPT

"THE FLOATING KNIFE"
Hebrews 4:12-16
PUPPETS: Dad & Butch

DAD: Butch, you seem to be day dreaming. What's going on?

BUTCH: Well, Dad, I was thinking about yesterday.

DAD: Yes, the fishing was fine. It may be the last time we get out before winter comes.

BUTCH: It sure was, but that is not what I was referring to.

DAD: Are you talking about Bruce?

BUTCH: That has a lot to do with it. He is such a bully and he makes me so mad.

DAD: Yes, and you remember what I told you?

BUTCH: You said I needed to love him.

DAD: That's right. And if you remember I took my pocket knife and asked what would happen if I threw it in the river.

BUTCH: I said it would sink and would be a big lose if you threw it.

DAD: And I told you I disagreed with you.

BUTCH: That's right and I begged you not to throw it in the water. It wasn't going to do anybody any good at the bottom of the river.

DAD: Yes but do you remember what I did?

BUTCH: As I recall it you went to your tackle box and got the biggest cork I have ever seen.

DAD: What happened then. Tell the boys and girls so they will know.

BUTCH: You tied that cork to your line and just below the cork you placed your knife and tied a knot there. I didn't think it was fair because you didn't say anything about using a cork.

DAD: I didn't say I was not going to use it. What happened?

BUTCH: You threw the whole thing into the river and it sank, but then it began to float. With the help of the cork it was carried along on top of the water.

DAD: And that reminds me that with God nothing is impossible. God gives many commands which I can't carry out by myself, but when I trust Him to help me, He just holds me up and carries me along - even when it's against my natural instincts.

BUTCH: And I got your point, Dad. I'll ask God to help me love Bruce. I really will.

DAD: Boys and girls, it is not natural for you to quit complaining, to be cheerful, to be unselfish. God gives many commands that go against your natural inclinations.

BUTCH: Yes, boys and girls, by yourself, you can't obey them -- but with His help, you can. See you everybody.

DAD: See you later boys and girls.
