SALLY: I hate having to be nice to Chris. She's never nice to me.
MOM: Well, it is a church gathering, so you should do it.
SALLY: A girl in my class said I should just pretend since it was a church function.
MOM: Who said you should pretend?
SALLY: Amy said I should. She said, "Isn't that the Christian thing to do".
MOM: Hmmmm, Do you remember last summer when you wanted to paint that old desk?
SALLY: Sure.
MOM: You wanted to just paint over the old paint, but dad made you sand it first.
SALLY: Yes.
MOM: Why was that?
SALLY: Dad said that if I didn't, the new paint would eventually chip off and the old paint would show through.
MOM: That's right.
SALLY: Amy said that if we don't pretent we should just not bother to be nice to Chris at all then.
MOM: You didn't just not paint the old desk did you?
SALLY: No, I sanded it and got rid of the rough spots.
MOM: And you need to get rid of the old feelings, too.
SALLY: But how?
MOM: It isn't easy. But a good place to start is with prayer.
SALLY: Really.
MOM: That's right. It's hard to dislike someone you are praying for.
SALLY: Before we get out of here today we need to ask the Lord to help me love Chris just like He loves her.
MOM: That's an excellent idea. How about you boys and girls? Have you ever pretended to like someone? Why not ask God to teach you to love somebody you find it difficult to like. He loves that person. Ask Him to fill your heart with His love. See you next time. Bye.
SALLY: Bye everybody
