MOM: Chris, I was disappointed in the way you acted at the doctor's office yesterday.
CHRIS: What do you mean?
MOM: The way you acted when you got the shot.
CHRIS: It hurt and I said Ow! Is there something wrong with that?
MOM: No, not really but you did over react a little.
CHRIS: Why did I need that shot anyway?
MOM: Those shots are very important. If you didn't get them, you might get a serious illness that could cripple you or even cost you your life. That shot will protect you for years to come.
CHRIS: That must be very strong medicine to last so long.
MOM: No. In fact there is no medicine there at all.
CHRIS: Then why did I get the shot?
MOM: There was no medicine but there was a form of the germ that causes the disease.
CHRIS: Yikes. That means it'll make me sick.
MOM: No it won't. What they put into you are weak germs which your body easily fights off. In doing so it produces special weapons called antibodies.
CHRIS: You mean I have these antibodies floating around in my blood?
MOM: That's right. Once these antibodies are activated they fight off new germs that try to get into your body. It's a really good defense system.
CHRIS: Well I'll tell you that Dad's boss needs some of that.
MOM: Why do you say that?
CHRIS: Dad says his boss thinks that doing religious acts and listening to Christian music and mentioning God's name once in a while is all it takes.
MOM: You mean it is like his religious acts are a shot that dulls his senses to what he really needs?
CHRIS: I think he has been immunized in the wrong way.
MOM: You know, you have hit on something. A weak, halfhearted form of religion often seems to be enough to immunize people against the real thing.
CHRIS: How about you boys and girls? Do you think that doing religious things is enough to make you right with God?
MOM: That's not true boys and girls. You must come to Christ in repentance and allow His blood to wash away your sins.
CHRIS: Simply being religious will never save you. Only Christ can do that. Bye everybody.
MOM: Goodbye boys and girls.
