PUPPET SCRIPT

By Louise Ferry

"WHAT'S IN A NAME?"
Acts 9:36-43
PUPPETS: Chris & Dad

CHRIS: Dad, it is real neat.

DAD: What's that, Chris? What is so neat?

CHRIS: Aunt Betty has a new baby and it is so neat.

DAD: New babies sure do bring a lot of joy and work into the house.

CHRIS: Her name is Tracy. Dad, how do people know what to name their babies?

DAD: Well, Chris, some babies are named for a member of the family or for a person the parents like. And sometimes a name is chosen because of its meaning.

    CHRIS: Names have meaning?

DAD: Some do. For instance, John means 'God is gracious'. I have a book that tells the meaning of many names.

CHRIS: I would sure like to read that sometime.

DAD: Anytime you want to, Chris. Names are interesting. The Bible says 'A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches'.

CHRIS: Do we have a good name, Dad?

DAD: I like to believe we do. No matter what name we are given, it can be a good name. Do you remember the Bible story of Dorcas?

CHRIS: Oh, yes. She did sewing for the poor people. Does the name 'Dorcas' have a meaning?

DAD: Yes. It means 'gazelle. But do you think people thought of a gazelle when they thought of Dorcas?

CHRIS: No. They probably thought of all the nice things Dorcas did for them. Oh, I get it. A good name is like a good reputation -- what you're known for.

DAD: That's right. Your name should be well spoken of. Since you have accepted Jesus as Savior, you also have Christ's name-- Christian. God wants you to live in a way that honors that name.

CHRIS: And if I do that, I'll always keep my good name.

DAD: How about you, boys and girls? Do you have the name 'Christian'? You do if you've asked Jesus to be your Savior.

CHRIS: Yes, boys and girls. Each day ask Him to help you do everything in a way that honors Him, and then you will truly have a good name. Bye for now, see you later.

    DAD: Bye. See you later.
