MOM: Well, Johnny, did Mrs. Davis buy you ice cream yesterday?
JOHNNY: What makes you ask that question?
MOM: It seems like every time you ask if you can go with her to help her with her groceries, she always buys you some ice cream.
JOHNNY: As a matter of fact, she did. But I didn't know what to think about what she asked me.
MOM: What was it that she asked you?
JOHNNY: She asked if I was a Christian.
MOM: And what did you answer?
JOHNNY: I told her that I sure hoped so. Then Walter, my friend came by and asked me if I had an ice cream cone.
MOM: What did you tell him?
JOHNNY: Before I could say anything, Mrs. Davis answered for me. She said, "He sure hope so" and as we both looked at her she continued "He guesses so, at any rate"
MOM: That is indeed a strange way to have a conversation.
JOHNNY: I asked her why she said that I hoped I had an ice cream cone because I have one, no hoping or guessing about it.
MOM: Did Mrs. Davis have anything else to say?
JOHNNY: She said that it was pretty silly of her to ask that, almost as silly as my saying that I hoped and guessed that I was a Christian.
MOM: You know, she's right. When you have something you don't have to hope or guess about it. You can know for sure.
JOHNNY: That's what Mrs. Davis said. She said the question is "Do I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ?"
MOM: Well, do you?
JOHNNY: Last summer I asked Him to forgive me and save me and I really meant it too, but sometimes I feel like maybe I should do something more.
MOM: There's nothing more you can do. The Bible says that if you believe in Jesus, you have eternal life -- you're a Christian. There's no doubt about it.
JOHNNY: How about you boys and girls. Are you a Christian? You don't have to hope or to guess so. Accept what He has done for you and take Him as your Savior. See you later.
MOM: Bye, boys and girls.
