BUTCH: I didn't make the basketball team, Mom.
MOM: That's too bad, Butch.
BUTCH: I'm not bragging or anything, but I do play basketball well.
MOM: Yes, you do, Son, but there were only two openings on the team, and the coach had to choose, didn't he?
BUTCH: Yes, that's right.
MOM: Who did make it?
BUTCH: Joe, which we all expected. Joe is good.
MOM: Who got the second spot?
BUTCH: They chose Nate for the other opening. In the try-outs, I made more baskets than he did, and I dribbled the ball longer.
MOM: You are good, Butch.
BUTCH: But his dad is a teacher at school, and I think that's why he made it.
MOM: I suppose that may be possible. If you really believe that, perhaps you should ask the coach about it, but do be careful not to make accusations you can't prove.
BUTCH: I suppose I can do that.
MOM: And, Butch, you must learn that life isn't always fair.
BUTCH: It sure isn't.
MOM: And another thing you must learn is to maintain a Christ-like attitude no matter what happen.
BUTCH: (whining) Aw, Mom
MOM: Think of Paul and Silas. It wasn't fair that they were thrown in jail for preaching about the Lord, and yet they sang! They weren't going to let the unfair actions of others get them down.
BUTCH: But, Mom, this is basketball!
MOM: I know this experience is hard for you, but you can learn something from it. Be challenged. Ask the Lord to help you handle the situation. You will come out of it a stronger and more mature Christian.
BUTCH: I know you are right, Mom and it is not going help anything for me to be upset. I know the Lord can turn this bad situation into a good situation. Bye boys and girls
MOM: See you later.
