BUTCH: I tell you, Johnny, I don't like that Randy Newman.
JOHNNY: Who in the world is Randy Newman?
BUTCH: Several years ago he wrote a song called "Short People" and I don't like being short.
JOHNNY: Yes, and the preacher sometimes calls the children "my little friends". They probably don't like that either.
BUTCH: If they are like me, they don't.
JOHNNY: That's funny, because today in Sunday School we shared the story of Zacchaeus, who was a little man.
BUTCH: Not another short story!!
JOHNNY: I don't know exactly how tall he was but the Bible says that he wanted to see Jesus and he couldn't see over or past the people in front of him.
BUTCH: I know what that is like.
JOHNNY: He was probably about the size of a child. It really is a challenge being short.
BUTCH: You better believe it. Trouble reaching things. Trouble washing dishes because you have to stand on something to reach the sink. Didn't Zacchaeus climb a tree or something?
JOHNNY: That's right, Butch. We all like to climb trees don't we? (wait for answers from kids) I think Zacchaeus is a very important character in the Bible.
BUTCH: What makes this small guy special, anyway?
JOHNNY: Well, it shows us that it doesn't matter to God what size you are. That He loves everybody regardless of what they look like, what they have or don't have, and what they have done or not done.
BUTCH: I remember now. Zacchaeus invited Jesus into his house.
JOHNNY: Yes, boys and girls, wouldn't you like it if Jesus came to your house?
BUTCH: Maybe Jesus cannot come to our house in the way he came to Zacchaeus, but you know what? We can invite Jesus to come into our hearts and into our minds and into our lives.
JOHNNY: And boys and girls, you don't even have to climb a tree. You can simply pray and ask Jesus to come into your life.
BUTCH: And it is safer than climbing trees. Bye boys and girls.
JOHNNY: Bye, Butch and we will see you boys and girls later.
