Cartridge box, belt, and bayonet scabbard

Union soldiers were issued cartridge boxes, belts, and bayonet scabbards like this rig. The cartridges were pre-wrapped (paper) and carried in the box-shaped contraption above. The spike-style bayonet (which attached to the rifle by means of a socket), shown in the second illustration of the Enfield rifle, was carried in this scabbard (from The Illustrated Catalog of Civil War Military Goods).
