JOHN B. VANHOOSE: Co. G, 39th KY (UNION) Mounted Infantry; and Co. B, 65th KY (UNION) Militia. Enlisted in Co. G at Peach Orchard, Lawrence Co., KY, on Oct. 17, 1862. He was mustered into the regiment on Jan. 12, 1863 and was elected his company's 1st Lt. On May 29, 1863, he resigned his commission due to a crippling disability. He was officially discharged on May 29, 1863. He was later listed on the roster for Co. B, 65th KY (UNION) Militia. The service of this regiment was from May 21, 1864, until June 21, 1864. On June 27, 1864, he was on a list of soldiers from the 65th KY that wanted to remove the colonel and hold open elections in August, 1864. He was listed in the 1890 Special Veterans Census of Johnson Co., KY. He is my 3rd Great-Uncle.
