Light Tomorrow With Today

As I drove to work one morning I noticed a church sign with these words on it: Light tomorrow with today. At first I though that is a catchy phrase for the church to use on its sign. But, as I passed it every day for a week it began to make me think just what does it mean to light tomorrow with today.

I began to think of all the people who need light in their lives and how they could get the blessed light they need. It occurred to me that each of us as Christians possess a fabulous light as Jesus told us in Matthew 5: 14-16, "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that hey may see your good work, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." If we then are the light of the world as this verse says, then we must be busy letting our lights shine for Jesus.

Every word we speak or deed we commit or omit will have an effect on us as well as the people around us who heard us speak or saw us do a good deed or maybe forgetting to do that good deed. Every action we take will either directly or indirectly affect us in the future. So if I want my own life to be full of light, then I must meditate on things that are holy, speak the things that will uplift and edify others and act in such a way that Jesus and I will be proud of myself.

As we install the officers today, I want you to think about how you can let your light shine for Jesus this year through your work as a GMA officer.

President (state girl's name) Your verse is found in Psalm 119:130, "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." As you preside over the meetings you must speak clearly and distinctly so as to be heard and understood by all who attend the meetings. Make it your goal that no one leave the meeting not understanding what went on and why, or what the plans are for the next meeting.

First Vice President (state the girl's name) Your verse is from Psalm 36:9, "For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." Your job this year is to be a promoter of the GMA work throughout our district, as well as presiding in the absence of the president. Everyone must be eager to attend the meeting because you have inspired them with your words of encouragement in attendance.

Second Vice President (state girl's name) Your verse is from Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." As program chairman you must have inspirational as well as entertaining programs that will bring honor and glory to our Lord and draw Christians closer to Him while at the same time presenting the plan of salvation to a lost and dying world.

Secretary (state girl's name) and Corresponding Secretary (state girl's name) An appropriate verse for you is found in Ecclesiastes 11:7, "Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:" For our eyes to behold the truth of the meetings we have held over the years, we need accurate accounts of what happened and the business that was transacted. It is your job to keep factual records as secretary and as Corresponding Secretary to keep records of everything that must be reported to the newspaper.

Pianist (state girl's name) and Song Leader (state her name) As the life of the party keeps everyone in a good mood, your job will be to keep everyone in the appropriate mood with the songs and music you choose. Your verse from Psalm 97:11 says, "Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart." You can be a beacon with spiritual songs, fun songs, and worship songs as you lead each meeting. Many people believe the music makes the meeting.

Historian (state girl's name) Exodus 10:22-23 explains, "And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings." It is your responsibility to keep accurate records of important events as they happen in our district. The district scrapbook is a pictorial record of everything we do. We want to see the light of fellowship we shared in the past as we plan for the future.

Attendance Chairman (state girl's name) and Goal Chairman (state her name) Proverbs 6: 20-23 is a reminder of how important it is to be reminded of what God wants us to do. "My son, keep they father's commandments, and forsake not the law of thy mother: Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light' and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:" You job will be to remind us of the importance of attending the meetings and giving toward the goal. We must be continually on guard lest we let our faithfulness waiver.

As we close this program, we need to be reminded of just why we attend GMA meeting. Our watchword say, "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ." We must strive to bring the blessed light of hope to others. Proverbs 4:18 says, "But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day." If our tomorrows will be lit with the light of today, we must remember to "Let our lights so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
