Tancy's
Adoption Story

After waiting 10 years on a local government adoption list, we finally decided to go the private adoption route. We contacted several local attorneys who handled adoptions, as well as some agencies locally and across the USA. We gathered alot of information and finally settled on an agency that had a very good track record and reputation. We contacted them and went out of our home state to meet with them and other prospective adoptive parents. We were very encouraged at what we heard and saw and so we contracted with a local agency to do our home study. We were approved to adopt and then the out of state agency sent a caseworker to visit in our home and review our homestudy. We went to our credit union and borrowed the money to cover the adoption fee, (which was no more than the cost of a car loan), and then we waited. The agency took our homestudy and shared it with several expectant mothers in their program and one selected us to be the parents of her baby. We never met the birth mother (that was her choice) but we corresponded with her a few times. She wanted a loving home for her baby. One with two parents that could give her baby things she knew that she would not be able to. I cant begin to speak about that kind of love, but it is probably the most unselfish thing Ive ever encountered in my life. I truly know that God had his hand in this girl's decision and in our finding the agency when we did. I cannot imagine having any child other than the one that was given to us only 5 short months after our initial contact with the adoption agency.

On the day that our baby was born..the caseworker called me with the good news. We had to wait 3 days before we could go get our baby. That was the longest 3 days of my life. But when it finally arrived, we gathered up our diaper bag, bottles, and carseat and headed off to the airport. We arrived at the agency, and signed the papers, and then we saw our baby for the first time. We were given a few moments alone with her.. to absorb the awesome thing that had just occured and then we were invited in to a Celebration Meeting. The personnel at the agency surrounded us in a circle of love where we celebrated our new family. Following the celebration, we returned home with our new baby. We arrived home late that night and I think my husband and I must have stood over our new daughter's cradle for half the night, just looking in disbelief at her. She was the most perfect baby in the world!

Several months passed and we had to return to the state where she was born to finalize in court the adoption. While the judge signed the papers, she played peek a boo with our daughter. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. One thing that the judge said to us will always stick with me. That this child is our child as if she had been born to us. And that is soooo true! She could not be ours anymore if we had given her birth. We waited a long time to adopt, but it was worth the wait!
