A Prayer
For My Marriage
Lord,
I am committed to a life-long marriage.
But
if you should ever see that my love is
growing
dim or my resolve weakening,
please
prompt someone to pray for me and with me, to gently remind me that love
is not just a feeling; that love is a commitment; love is obedience
to your express will. Remind me that your beautiful design for marriage
is a picture of your relationship with the Church. To mar the marriage
is to spoil the picture of you which the world sees.
Let me
never come to the place of hopelessness. To give up hope would be to deny
your power to change people. Thank you that you are changing me.
Thank you for teaching me to say, "I'm sorry" and "I forgive."
If I
should falter, show me that I can never find
happiness
by rebelling against your plan. I might find forgiveness, for
you are merciful, but I would have chosen second best. Give me
strength
to refuse to accept the world's pattern
of disposable
marriage, for this precious gift,
strong
yet fragile, is one of your best to mankind. Nourished by Your love, it
will last a lifetime.
Give
me the sure knowledge that I have not
yet
arrived at"perfect love," that I cannot afford to be complacent.
Thank you for those who pray for me. Thank you for those who ease
my burdens. Thank you for those who have encouraged me by baring
their souls and sharing their own hard times and victories.
Lord
fill me with Your love.
