Come, Little Leaves
          "Come, little leaves," said the wind one day,
          "Come o'er the meadows with me and play;
          Put on your dresses of red and gold;
          Summer is gone and the days grow cold."
          Soon as the leaves heard the wind's loud call,
          Down they came fluttering, one and all;
          Over the brown fields they danced and flew,
          Singing the glad little songs they knew.
          Dancing and whirling, the little leaves went;
          Winter had called them, and they were content.
          Soon fast asleep in their earthly beds
          The snow laid a coverlid over their heads.

        The poem above has been a part of my memory since
        childhood and has always come to mind this time of year.
        How beautiful autumn is with its trees of many colors,
        squirrels hustling about collecting acorns and food for the  soon to arrive winter season, and there's always those
        wonderful autumn sunsets that seem to be God's signature of the day.
        Thanksgiving is a warm and wonderful holiday when families come together to have a traditional dinner of turkey with all the trimmings and to give thanks for the blessings that they've received during the past year.  The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621 to give thanks for a bountiful harvest.  The meal was shared between the Pilgrims and Native Americans with foods whose origin was North American such as pumpkin, cranberries, corn, and of course, the native bird known as the wild turkey.  The Pilgrim's harvest would not have been so plentiful were it not for the Native Americans who taught them what would grow well in their new land.

         Robert Louis Stevenson has always been one of my favorite poets.  I recently ran across this poem that he wrote and thought it would be a nice one to say as a blessing before Thanksgiving dinner.

          Lord, behold our family here assembled.
          We thank Thee for this place in which we dwell; for the love that unites us; for the peace accorded us this day; for the hope with which we expect the morrow.
              - Robert Louis Stevenson -

        May this Thanksgiving season be one of peace and joy for you and bring to you a happy appreciation of all your blessings.

                Hope you get the biggest
                   part of the wishbone!

              Happy Thanksgiving to you
             from the Woof-muffins, too!
