The following edited information was found in the Civil War section of the main library in Omaha, Nebraska. The source of the article is The Fremont Tribune of 6 September 1910, under the banner OLD SOLDIER IS LAID TO REST IN RIDGE CEMETERY. Ridge Cemetery is located in North Bend Township near Fremont, Nebraska. Because the date of the veteran's death is given as 16 February 1895 it is assumed the newspaper article must be from a collection. William W. Millard, veteran of the Civil War was laid to rest yesterday afternoon, services being conducted according to the ritual of the G.A.R.. The deceased had lived for the past eight years at North Bend, and a number of old soldiers came down from there to attend the funeral. They were W. W. Hall, J. J. Kelser, John Ross, John Murrell, Mr. Mozier, A. K. Strayer, M. C. Mitchel and Joseph Hanks. William W. Millard, was born in 1826 in Birch County, Pennsylvania. After he mustered out he moved to Nebraska and settled near the Republican River where he lost everything during the drought. In 1887 he moved to North Bend, Nebraska. For three weeks before his death, the G.A.R. at North Bend made efforts to get him admitted to a sanitarium at Hot Springs, South Dakota. Finally at the advice of the physician who said he must be moved from North Bend, he was brought to the Fremont Hospital on Saturday afternoon. His death followed in a few hours. Later the long awaited papers admitting him to the sanitarium came, but too late. The departed veteran is survived by his wife and five children. The following information about Paul Frick is not found in Samuel P. Bates "History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. It was researched and printed in the November 2001 issue of QUICK STEP NEWS - Volume 4, Number 3, a publication of the The Civil War Roundtable of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and furnished by Kenneth W. Mawson.
Paul Frick Paul Frick was a member of Co. I of the 4th Pennsylvania Volunteers serving for 3 months. He then mustered into Co. B of the 53rd Pennsylvania Volunteer Regiment. On July 15, 1862, The Montgomery Ledger published this article regarding the death of Paul Frick. SOLDIER DROWNED.-We are called upon to record a very sad case of drowning which occurred at this place on Tuesday evening last, Paul Frick, a member of Co B., 53d Penna. Regiment who was wounded at the battle of Fair Oaks, and has since been at home on furlough, went bathing in the Schuylkill River, on that evening, near the Pottstown bridge, and while swimming along where the water was pretty steep, was seized with cramp, as is supposed, and drowned before he could be rescued. He called for help to some companions who were bathing near, but though every effort was made, he could not be reached and taken out to save his life. The deceased was a member of Co C., 4th Penna., Regiment in the three months service, and reenlisted for the war in Col. Brooke's Regiment. At the battle of Fair Oaks he received a wound in the arm from a musket ball, but had nearly recovered, and intended to returning to the war in a few days. He was about 25 years old, and leaves a wife and child to mourn his loss. Frick's grave is marked with a memorial provided by Montgomery County. The stone is in excellent condition. Frick is buried in the GAR section of East End Cemetery in Pottstown. |

Sennett, John W. | Pvt. | Oct. 30, 61 | 3 | Captured. Died at Salisbury, N.C. Dec. 28, 64 ( corrected from Dec. 8, 64 via family documents ) of wounds received at Spottsylvania C.H. May 12, 64.
John W. Sennett's name is mispelled John W. Sonnett in "The History of Pennsylvania Volunteers by Samuel P. Bates Vol. 2" which is the source of information for this roster. His name also appears in error on the monument for the 53rd at Gettysburg as John W. Sonnett which should be John W. Sennett. These corrections are confirmed by documents in possession of his Great Great Great Grandnephew, Michael McHenry, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. John is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Michael's Great Great Great Grandfather, James E. Sennett, a brother of John, also served during the Civil War with the 48th Pennsylvania Volunteers Infantry, Company G. |
