Why the 4th day in July?
The Declaration of Independence, unanimously declared by the thirteen United States of America, was adopted on July 4, 1776.

Who was Betsy Ross?
Betst Ross, born Elizabeth Griscom, was summoned by George Washington, Robert Morris, and George Ross to sew the first American flag. On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress, seeking to promote national pride and unity, adopted the national flag. "Resolved: that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation."

What is the Declaration of Independance?
The Declaration of Independance was drafted by Thomas Jefferson in June of 1776. The Declaration of Independance summarized the philosopy of individual liberty in "self-evident truths" and set forth a list of grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother country.
