Silent Night

Just seeing those words ... Silent Night ... conjers up all sorts of peaceful images. Snow gently falling, covering the ground in a soft blanket of white. Young children building snowmen, snow forts, and making snow angels. And a warm church on a cold night, lights off, candles glowing, and Silent Night being sung by everyone.

I'm sure many of us have wonderful Christmas memories as children! My parents did everything possible to make sure my brothers and I never went without! It wasn't until I was on my own, that I could appreciate everything my parents sacrificed for us. My mother didn't work until I was in 7th grade, and my father owned his own business. Money was tight ... yet on Christmas morning we had so many presents under the tree. The love I have for my family is so fulfilling ... yet some children are not as fortunate as I was - and as many of you are!

For those of you that know me, you know my love and compassion for children. They are what makes Christmas so very special. Teaching them about Jesus - and the reasons for Christmas. Watching their eyes light up on Christmas morning as they see those beautifully wrapped gifts. The pure love and trust they have in everything around them! But I can't help but think of the less fortunate children during the holidays. Every Christmas, I do something to help those children. And even though my finanaces are tighter this year than in years past - I won't let the season go by without doing something. Even something small! Many stores have programs in which you can purchase a gift for the children ... and there are many programs like "Toys for Tots" nationwide! Spend a few dollars and a few minutes helping someone embrace all that Christmas has to offer. The feeling you get will be priceless!
