Father’s Day … what wonderful memories this day holds for me! My dad was always as big a kid as we were, and at 61 years old – he STILL is!! We would always cook brats on the grill … have my mom’s wonderful potato salad (to this day NO ONE makes it like my mom!) … and spend the entire day with family, laughing and playing outside. It’s nice to see some traditions never change. This year I’ll watch my dad playing outside with my neice and nephews like he would do with my brothers and I. We will all grab our paper plates and eat picnic style and enjoy the summer day! My dad is definitely one-of-a-kind … he was the most understanding father in the world. He knew that kids would be kids – and that we were going to make stupid mistakes. And although we would get punished – we could look into his gentle eyes and know beyond a doubt that Dad understood us! Take a minute to think about the things your dad did for you – and tell him this Father’s Day what he means to you! I love you Dad!! Thank you for making me the person I am today!

Father’s Day is the third Sunday in June. A woman by the named Sonora Smart Dodd thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Having been raised by her father after her mother died, Sonora wanted her father to know how special he was to her. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and in her eyes was a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910.
