COFFEE CRISPS

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 egg
1 Tbs milk
1-1/2 tsp vanilla
1-1/2 cups flour
2 Tbs instant coffee powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix sugars, shortening, egg, milk and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten to 1/8-inch thickness with fork dipped in sugar or with greased bottom of glass dipped in sugar. Bake until light brown, 7 to 8 minutes. Makes about 3-1/2 dozen cookies.
