Hi Jim,
I got your email in June 1999. So sorry it has taken me so long to
respond. Be patient with me- I'm just learning how to use my email.
I'll be taking an Internet course at our local Junior College soon.
I've just started getting my genealogy research into my Family Tree
Maker computer program. when I complete the Shaffer family line, I'll
send you a copy. My husband printed the email you sent, but
unfortunately the email addresses for your data in txt and GEDCOM didn't
print out legibly. Would you mind emailing them to me again.

Looking at our Family trees I figure that we are 5th cousins. I
noticed that you are a Doctor. Are you a medical doctor? I'm a
mostly retired nurse. I do so some PRN work for a local HMO, but I'm
busy now teaching 9-10 Water Aerobics classes each week.

Thanks.
SUZY

I am looking for the Shaffar/Shaffer family living in Crawford Cty
between 1824 and about 1880. Daniel Shaffar originally came from
Shenadoah Valley, Virginia before 1824. His wife Susan Samuels came from

Ky. They had at least 15 children: William, John, Nancy, Deliah, George,

Julia, Samuel, and Susan.
I am trying to track George (born in 1843), and his wife, Catherine.

Their children were: Lawrence, Elodia, Henry, and Samuel. Samuel was
found later on living in Missouri. He is my great grandfather. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.
Several children of Daniel moved on to Ohio and Iowa.
Thanks,
Jo (Shaffar) Bohony

Hi,

I've posted this before, but maybe there are some new subscribers or someone
has made recent connections.

I'm searching for the parents of David Shaffer, b Aug 8, 1813, probably
Somerset PA, married Catherine Weyandt abt 1834. Several of their children
were baptized at Friedens Lutheran Church, Somerset PA. By 1850 they had
moved to Preston County WV, where David died 1871. Catherine moved on to
Fayette County PA, where she died 1905.

Also searching for similar information on Valentine Shaffer, AKA "Felty
Shaffer" 1818-1875, married Matilda Weyandt, sister of the above Catherine.
They too, were in Somerset County, PA until abt 1850, moved on to Preston
County, WV and finally Fayette County, PA.

Any leads?

Thanks,
Marc

Rebecca,
I received your query letter today in regards to Philip Shaver/
Catherine. I had previously received a copy of your letter from Martha
Foland. I will mail it to you plus a copy of her letter to me about your
problem. (Her letter also included a couple other items.)
I think that the Philip Shaver you describe, born 5 April 1781
and the one in my book #550, page 240 (my RIN 2953) are two different
people as the one in my book has a d/o/b of 23 Jan 1972. But that
problem is up to the two of you. I do identify 2 children, Maria and
Serenus, as being baptized with parents Philip and Catherine.
No, I do not have any more of my Schäffer books left and don't
intend to reprint it. But, one of my co-workers, Ed Kipp, is putting it
on a CD-Rom.
I'm getting ready to publish another Shaver book about the
Canadian side of the family, but he is not in it either.
Can you have Gregory Shaver, or you, send me his ancestral line,
from him back to this Philip? Maybe I can find some connection there.
Another suggestion. Contact Dr. James Brown, "Shaffer
Connections". I've sent him a copy of this e-mail. He runs a clearing
house for people who are trying to sort out their Shafer/Shaver/Schaffer
connections. He publishes a semi-annual newsletter, $10.00 per year. He
found one of my ancestors who left NY State and went to Ohio. Jim's
address is: Shaffer Connections, Dr. Jim Brown, 15405 W. Elmore East
Rd., Elmore, OH 43416.
Does your client, Gregory Shaver use a computer genealogy
program? If so, what's the name? Is it GED-COM compatible? Does he
have e-mail?
        I await your advices.

My Schaefer family immigrated to Wisconsin in 1847, two brothers
Johan-Christoph and his brother Mathias. They settled in Iowa and Grant
counties. The family came from Graach, Rheinland Germany. The family in
Germany still own the vinyard and winery on the Mosel River. I have the
families in Germany and the first 2 or 3 generations in America.

Jim,
You queried Shaffer Connections: Subject Shaffer/Shaver of
Shaverrtown, NY. I, too, am interested in this family.
My Schäffer family are the descendants of Maria Elizabeth
Schäfferin who settled in Town of Schoharie, Schoahrie Co., NY and is
listed in Henry Jones' book, pages 836-839. I also researched a Shaver
family who settled in the Town of Fulton, Schoharie Co., NY. Then I
heard about Schäffers settling in Shavertown, T-Andes, Deleware Co., NY,
so I researched them. They are found in Henry Jones' book, pages
824-830. I was looking for some kind of connection between the 3
families as these locations, Shavertown, T-Fulton and Schoharie are not
too far apart from one another. But, so far, I haven't found any
connection between the 3 families. You'd think at least one young "buck"
would have crossed over the hills and "mated" with one of the other
families. But, I guess the Schâffers are too "chaste"!
I would like to trade information with you. Let me know when you
receive this e-mail and we'll take it from there.
        My address is:

#1 [SHAFFER-L] Josephine Shaffer Barr ["Lewis H. DeFore"

Hello
I have just joined the Shaffer rootsweb. I am searching for the parents and
siblings of my parental ggrandmother, Josephine Shaffer Barr Davis.
I know very little about her . She was married twice, lst to ? Barr they
had 2 children: Johnnie Barr he lived in Oklahoma, and Minnie Barr m ?
Anderson lived in Cut-N-Shoot, TX. 2nd marriage John Davis (of American
Indian descent) had 4 daughters: Ivy Davis, Sophie Davis, Ollie Josephine
Davis McVey (my grandmother) b 12-4-1883 in Jack Co., TX d 1-17-1982 in
Madison Co., TX m 2-10-1905 in Ennis, TX to John Eula McVey b 2-20-1884
Leon Co., TX d 2-20-1949 in Harris Co., TX., and Daisey Davis Wiggins.
They were Farm migrant workers. I t is told Josephine Shaffer Barr Davis
drove a covered wagon around the Indian Territory.
Any info appreciated

My gg grandfather was Levi H. Shaffer, born 1854 in PA. He married
Martha
Emma Duncan. Early records indicate that they were from Westmoreland,
probably near Seward where they lived. While I have a lot of
information on
Emma Duncan's line, I have nothing for Levi Shaffer. I know that many
Levi
Shaffers came from Somerset County, PA, but I can find no relation to my
Levi
H.

I was wondering if you might have stumbled across him in your Shaffer
research.

Sincerely,
Kathy Kelly

Hi Kathy,,,,

I have a Levi Shaffer married to a Martha Emma Duncan,,,,Levi being the

son of Samuel born 1844. I know that would make the date of birth on
Levi wrong according to your data but it would be too much of a
coincidence not to be the same family. Samuel is from Somerset Co. but
ended up in Cambria Co.

Hi again Kathy,,

The children I have listed for my Levi Shaffer and Martha Emma Duncan
are Dorth Pearl, Virtue Clair, and Mabel Adell. Do any of these sound
familiar?

Thank you for rsponding to my email. I am very interested in finding our

the internet last night and early this morning and could not find anything
about my relatives. If you have any tips or hints let me know. I would
appreciate any help you could give me.

Thank you,

Well, my mother's maiden name is Patricia Anne
Shaffer, but she doesn't follow the geneology - her
father Paul D. Shaffer does. (He lives in Wexford,
Pa).

What I didn't know at the time I wrote you was that
you and my grandfather (Paul Shaffer) have already had
contact. He went to a reunion not to long ago and met
you and your mother. So you already know about us.

I am 30 years old and grew up in Bedford,
Pennsylvania. My mother grew up in Johnstown. My
grandfather in Windber. I now live in Richmond, VA.
I'm not sure what else to say. So ask away if you
write again. I also have a sister living in
Spartanburg, SC - Stacy Ritchey. She has children -
so if you want more info - let me know.

Hope to hear soon,
Michelle
