"AND DEPARTING LEAVE BEHIND US, FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDS OF TIME" So wrote Henry Wadsworth Longfellow in "Psalm of Life". Didn’t he know how quickly those footprints can be erased? Each of us marching through time. What can we do to leave something behind?

WHO IS ELGIBLE?

All families with Residence, Former Residence, or Roots in the County are ask to share their family history for the New Heritage Book. If you have just moved to the county this offer is open to you as a newcomer!

HOW MUCH MAY I SUBMIT, WHAT IS THE COST?

Stories of 500 WORDS and one PICTURE will be printed FREE for each household. The deadline varies with each County Book. ( No genealogical charts or tabular material please.)

NEW! COMPUTER DISK GUIDELINES! Stories will be accepted on Floppy Disc or CD. We accept disk from Windows format in text(.txt) form only. Stories may be emailed to the County Contact person, if an e-mail address available. PICTURES: (ONLY) If original pictures or Glossy prints are not available, scans may be submitted. For highest quality, glossy prints of ORIGIONAL PHOTOS are preferred. Photos sent on disk must be saved in TIF (tagged image format). NO JEPG format will be accepted. PHOTOS should be scanned B & W at 250 DPI, and no higher than 300 DPI. Committee reserves the editorial decision to accept or decline photos on disk contingent on quality of the scan.

GUIDELINES FOR STORIES

1. story to be typewritten double spaced on 8 1/8 x 11 white bond paper ( do not use onionskin) with WORD COUNT, SOURCES (if available), NAME and ADDRESS of PERSON SUBMITTING STORY at the end of the article. PLEASE include a caption for your picture, if one is included.

* Call a committee Member if you need assistance in writing or typing your story.

GUIDELINES FOR PHOTOS

2. We accept B & W and color photos; none larger than 8 x 10. Identify your photos with a return address label, or print lightly on the back, including phone number. We make every effort to return your photo, but ask that you DO NOT SEND irreplaceable ones. High quality, good contrast. GLOSSY laser copies made on photo paper will be considered. We accept any photo up to 8 X 10 but these will be reduced to 1 col. Wide unless you pay an additional fee detailed in paragraph 4. Please write a concise caption for each photo, limited to 8-10 words. Type the caption at the bottom of your story.

Additional Words and Pictures

4. In addition to the free 500 word story and photo, Extra space is available in the book; 10¢ for each additional word, $ 12.50 for additional photos or an additional 1 colum wide block of photo space.

5. You are invited to order a copy of the new book now. ONLY THOSE WHO ORDER AND PAY IN ADVANCE ARE ASSURED OF OBTAINING A BOOK. Check the county of your choice for the deadline.

FAMILY MEMBERS (Out of State)

If your family has left the state please contact them for their story and forward their address to us so we may contact them.

Churches, Organizations, Towns

7. Our book will contain stories about your county, places and events. We are especially interested in church, club, and organization histories, and communities. These are entitled to 250 words and 1 photo FREE. Additional words are 10¢ and additional photos are $12.50.

Business, Tributes, Memorials

There will also be a tribute, memorial, and business history section. Contact a committee member for information and prices on these pages.

Assistance in Writing Your Story

The committee sincerely hopes that each of you will submit your family story. It is only with your support that this publication will portray your county. If you need assistance, call a book committee member, or attend a workshop (watch the newspaper for ads) that will be held in your area. Any story that does not embarrass or harm any other individual will be published in the HERITAGE BOOK. Thank you for your time and Cooperation.
