Mary, Mother of Jesus (NBC/Hallmark 1999)
synopsis
(drama) The story of Jesus Christ's life and death and resurrection is told from his mother, Mary's point of view - as a suffering mother and ultimate champion of her son's goals.
update
Executive producer, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, intentionally chose to retell the story of Jesus from a woman's point of view. In the Roman Catholic Church, Mary is revered for her strength and this telefilm portrays the great courage and conviction a mother had to raise a son like Jesus. Christian brings a human quality in his portrayal of Jesus - a living, breathing young man - not the untouchable icon portrayed in Biblical epics of the past. And Mary is played by Pernilla August - best known as Luke Skywalker's mom from PHANTOM MENANCE. Available on video.
