Royal Deceit/Prince of Jutland (Miramax - 1993)

synopsis
(drama) Shakespeare based Hamlet on an ancient Danish tale about royal deceit and incest. And it is on that ancient tale that Oscar-winner, Gabriel Axel (BABETTE'S FEAST) based THE PRINCE OF JUTLAND. Originally set for theatrical release, Gabriel Axel became ill so the film was never completed. Cast includes Gabriel Byrne and Helen Mirren as well as TRAINSPOTTING's Ewen Bremner.

update
Available on video. Originally set for theatrical release, Gabriel Axel became ill so the film was never completed. But THE PRINCE OF JUTLAND soon became a Holy Grail quest for Baleheads to track down. Many British video stores were selling copies of PRINCE OF JUTLAND to North America only to have to have those PAL tapes converted to NTSC format. So the Baleheads began a lobbying campaign to ask Miramax to release the movie in North America. Seeing a potential market, Miramax re-edited the film, added a new soundtrack and released the newly titled ROYAL DECEIT on video to a grateful Balehead crowd. While the movie itself is rough and uneven, showing its unfinished state, there is a raw BRAVEHEART quality to the film and, as most Baleheads will tell you, it also featured Christian's first nude scene.
