synopsis
(children's fantasy) Swedish children's author, Astrid Lindgren is best known for PIPPI LONGSTOCKING. In this film, a lonely boy seeks his long lost father only to end up in another world where his father is the King of Faraway - a paradise island. But all is not well in paradise - Mio must free his father's kingdom from the clutches of the evil knight, Cato. So together with his loyal best friend, Jum-Jum (Christian), they set off to fight the forces of evil.

Hard to find on video but oft shown on children and sci-fi TV channels. Joint Swedish-Soviet film was actually filmed at the old Tsar's Winter Palace - ironically, the same Tsar whose son, Christian had just portrayed in ANASTASIA. Christian learned to ride a horse in less than 2 weeks for the role. Interesting cast includes: Christopher Lee (to be reunited with Christian in TREASURE ISLAND), Susannah York, and Timothy Bottoms.
