R: What's your problem? That's your brother you just walked out on.
G: He told me he has AIDS. How do you expect me to react?
R: You could try some compassion. Maybe some love.
G: Do you have it?
R: Yes, not that it matters.
G: Well it does to me.
R: It matters for the wrong reasons. You think AIDS isn't part of your rich,
protected world? You are so wrong.
G: I'm sorry for Mike, and for you, but I can't deal with this. It's a part
of your lives, not mine. (she gets in elevator. Stone comes out of the apt.)
R: I can NOT believe her.
S: Robin, she's not worth it. (hugs her) But thank you for trying. (kiss
Fade out)
(Scorpio house, days later. Phone rings, Robin answers)
R: Hello?
G: Is this Robin?
R: Yes. Who is this?
G: This is..(pause) It's Gina, Mike's sister.
R: (her voice becoming cold) Oh. What do you want?
G: I really need to talk to both you and Mike, but I want to talk to you
alone first. Please?
R: (hesitates) I guess. I have to work. Can you come by the Outback in about
an hour?
G: Sure. Thank you.
R: Don't thank me for anything yet. I'll see you. (hangs up before G can
respond. Sighs) I don't think I'll ever understand that girl. (shakes her
head as she walks out)
(At the Outback - Gina comes in)
G: Hi.
R: Hi. Let's go outside to talk. (they go out) What do you want?
G: I know I don't deserve to even have you talking to me. I was a total
bitch to you and Mike. I got home and tried to just go on with my life like
nothing happened, like nothing was wrong but I couldn't. I finally logged on to
some of the AIDS sites on the internet. I read a lot. I guess I was a jerk.
R: You guess? You really hurt Stone, and that hurt me. You have a house, a
family, you had all the advantages. He didn't. When he comes to you, wanting
you to be his sister for once, you walk out on him. You insult him, and you
leave him. What do you expect from me now?
G: I guess I want you to be the older, more mature one of us, to help me
understand. Maybe even to forgive me. Not that I deserve it.
R: I'm not the one you need to apologize to.
G: I know. Mike's just going to be harder to talk to.
R: You want a place to start? Call him Stone.
G: Stone? That's so improper.
R: Gina, he doesn't want to be rich-people proper. And Stone is his name.
(Stone comes up next to them. Robin hugs him) Hi.
S: Hi. (kiss) Hello Gina.
G: Mi..(sighs) Stone, can I talk to you for a minute? (Robin smiles at her &
nods slightly)
R: I'll leave you two alone. (she walks out of earshot, but watches them.
They talk for a moment, then Stone smiles & hugs Gina. They walk over to
Robin)
G: I hate to do this, but I promised my mom I'd do some shopping and be home
in an hour. (to Robin) Thank you. (R nods. They hug, awkwardly) Stone -
(almost to herself) That sounds so weird. Stone, again, I'm so sorry.
S: It's OK Gina. (opens arms) Got another hug for your brother? (they hug)
You better go. I'll call you. Real soon.
G: OK. Bye.
R&S: Bye. (G leaves)
R: So, you two starting to work things out?
S: We've got a ways to go, but we'll get there. (he wraps his arms around
her waist, kisses the top of her head. Fade out)
