Page 4 - The green-skinned woman is Jade, daughter of Sentinel, and sister to Obsidian (Todd Rice). Jade and Obsidian, being twins, have always shared a type of mental bond, as suggested in these pages.
Page 5, Panel 4 - Hector Hall: "I'm still not exactly sure what happened to my parents...." Last we saw the original Hawkman and Hawkwoman, they had been sent to limbo, having been merged with the latest Hawkman (Katar Hol) into one Hawk-entity. More information on this (confusing) situation can be found at Hawkworld.
Page 7, Panel 2 - The story of Rose/Thorn's relationship with Alan was recounted in Infinity Inc Annual #1, 1985.
Page 8, Panel 1 - Pat Dugan, formerly known as Stripesy, was a sidekick to the original Star-Spangled Kid. Nowadays, he fights crime in a robot suit known as S.T.R.I.P.E., and accompanies his step-daughter, the new Star-Spangled Kid (see the current Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. series).
Page 8, Panel 2 - Sand saw Stripesy's 'flying machine' (the Star Rocket Racer) in Star-Spangled Comics #1 (1999).
Page 17, Panel 1 - Ian Karkull, an old JSA villain, was seemingly destroyed in 1941 (All-Star Squadron Annual #3). His body apparently 'exploded' raining down shadow-energy on the JSA, which somehow increased their lifespans. Possibly, this shadow energy passed through Sentinel, giving shadow-related powers to his son, Obsidian.
Page 18, Panel 4 - Other 'individuals capable of tapping into this realm' (or the Shadowlands) could include Umbra (from the Legion of Super-Heroes), or the Shade (see James Robinson's Starman).
Page 22 - The new Dr Mid-Nite, Pieter Cross. Up until this JSA appearance, the new Dr Mid-Nite had only starred in a 3-issue self-titled series, recently collected in a TPB.
