After Kim woke up they started the journey back to the colonists camp. 
They had to switch who rode the ATV because there was not enough room for all
of them.  Yale and Julia walked the first times and then Kim and Bess.  Tommy
smiled when he saw the two together.  Bess was around 24 but Kim took to her
like they had been best friends forever.  
       "Well, my turn to walk." Devon got off the ATV.
       "I guess it's my turn to."Tommy started to get off.
       "Are you sure your legs okay?" asked Kim.
       "I feel like nothing happened." she frowned, "Really, Kim.  I'm fine. 
You're not starting to worry about me now are you?" he grinned and she
blushed when they others looked confused.
       "Well then lets get walking." Devon called to Tommy."
       Tommy got off and started walking with Devon.  She took long strides
that Tommy was used to.
       "So, ah,"Tommy broke the silent walk, "Where exactly are we going?  Is
there ,like, a big city or sumphin'?"
       Devon smiled at his accent.  It reminded her of what Yale had called, very
stifly, a "surfer dude".  "Well, Tommy.  You are going to be in for a big
surprise.  We are heading back to camp."
       "Camp?  Are you guys on a camping trip?"
       "In the words of Morgan Martin, "An extended camping trip from hell." 
We have no choice."
       "Who Morg...?"
       "Just some whinner.  You'll know what I mean when you meet him.  There
are 21 of us in total.  We are colonists of this new planet."
       "New planet?  You mean no one's here?"
       "Yes that's right.  The world became very polluted so everyone moved
onto Space Stations.  At first, it was the perfect solution.  After a few
generations, though, there became complications.  Children started being born
with something we call the SYNDROME.  It totally wreck the kids.  They couldn't
breath on their own and were very weak.  They have to wear "immuno suits"
which feed them with the nutrients they need to survive.  They only live to be
about eight or nine."
       "That's horrible.  You said your son survived?" Tommy looked at her. 
She continued her story.
       "My family, the Adair's were very rich.  I used my influence to convince
people to let me do this.  I couldn't watch my son die and as far as doctors
could tell the only cure was "earth".  Just the sun and the air in general.  Well,
I found this planet.  After eight years of planning I got it together.  There are
200 SYNDROME families in a ship 2 years behind us, suspeneded in Cold Sleep."
       "Cold Sleep?"
       "It's keeps the body in suspended animation.  So, we are really 22 years
older than we are, but since we were suspended we didn't age.  Actually, Alonzo,
the driver, is over 100 years old because he's been in cold sleep so long."
       "Amazing.  I wish Billy could hear this."
       "Billy?"
       "Just a scientist friend of mine.  Knowin' him, he probably invented it."
Tommy grinned.
       "Well our whole journey has been full of problems.  The government tried
to blow us up before we left.  They never were to happy with what I was doing.
Then for some reason, that we now know wasn't anybody here's fault, our ship
crashed.  We had to escape on pods.  We are many kilometres away from our
destitnation of New Pacifica were the children will land.  We also lost almost all
of our supplies.  Some burnt up in the atmosphere and the others were stolen
by Grendlers."
       "Grendlers?"
       "Slimy traders.  They smell, they steal and they kill."
       "Nice.  Are you the first here?  I mean it's so beautiful?"
       "From what we can tell there were some biolgists, some Penial Colonists
and some ZEDS."
       "Zedds!" Tommy stopped dead in his tracts and his face whitened, "There
more than one Zedd"
       "You know of the ZEDS?  They weren't created until years after you. 
They were created by the concil and are killers."
       "Well, I don't know what the council is but I can't count the number of
times Lord Zedd's tried to kill me!"
       "Lord Zedd?" she looked confused, "Would you mind telling me about him?"
       "Well, he lives, I mean lived, or maybe he still lives on Earth's moon.  He
always tried to destroy the Earth.  I think he's the one who sent us here."
       "What did he look like?"
       "He's red.  It looks like his muscles are inside out and he has what looks
like a radiator on his face."
       "Okay.  That's a different Zed.  The ones here are people who have been
programed to kill.  They start with the biggest armed person and will kill 'til
everyone is dead.  They have one weak spot."
       "That sounds awful." Tommy frowned, "Are there many?"
       "We have no idea.  We captured one and he killed himself.  We no longer
have a connection with the council."
       "What is the council?" Tommy asked.
       "It's an organization of people.  All I'll tell you is they don't seem to be
very nice.  If you want to know more you can ask Julia.  She used to be one."
       "So what are you guys doing, I mean you're so far away."
       "Well, we're making our way.  I try to get us to average 20 km a day."
       "Oh that's brutal."
       "We have more vehicles." She noted the relief on Tommy's face, "Unless
you guys know or want other wise you can stay with us.  You'll be in luck
though.  We're stopped for the winter.  As you can see it's cold."
       "Ya, I noticed that.  Well I think Kim and Bess are soulmates so I think
we're probably going with you." he smiled.
       "Is she your girlfriend?" she asked.
       "Well, she used to be.  She was special to me....is" he smiled at the
vehicle that was ahead of them,  "I would have given up my life for her.  Then
she went away to work on her gymnastics and found another guy."
       "I'm sorry to hear that."
       "I'm not sure why I'm telling you all this.  Actually, right before I landed
on the grass I had been crying over her." he looked down ashamed, "She was
staying at my house with her new boyfriend."
       "That's too bad."
       "What about you.  Is Alonzo your husband?" Tommy asked seriously.
       She laughed.  "No no.  My husband is gone."
       "Oh," Tommy didn't press her for more.  "Ah, how long are we from
camp?"
       "Actually we're almost there."
       "Not to be rude, ah, but do you think you guys have an extra pair of
clothes for each of us?"
       "We do, but what's wrong with those.  I'm not up on old earth fashions."
       He smiled, "Old earth?  Well these clothes are my PJ's.  Same with Kim."
       "Of course.  Oh look.  There we are."
       Tommy looked to see about five big tents and a huge building.  There
were lights around.  Tommy could see the other vehicles.  There was one with
big wheels, another ATV and a huge truck that looked to Tommy to be a camper
van.
       "Cool."
       "Ya.  The vehicle with the big wheels is the Dune Rail and the other big
one is the TransRover."
       "Is that a green house?"
       "Yes.  It's very humid so it's very nice.  This is were the biologists
lived."
       "Awesome." Devon was amused with his english.
       "Lets go.  I'll set you guys up a tent before you have to talk to anyone. 
You have a watch?  Good." She grabbed it and examined it.  "This isn't a watch."
       "No wonder I'm late so much." Tommy joked.
       "I'll get you guys than we'll have a campfire and we'll introduce you to
everyone. Oh, and I'll get you some clothes.  You look about Alonzo's size."
Tommy shuttered.  'I don't think that guy wants me to wear his clothes' he
remembered his stare.  "I'm sure Bess will give Kim some of her clothes."
       "Thanks.
