Peace Between the Tigers

by Malli

First scene: Kiara and Kovu's daughter, Larani, is shown sleeping as a young cub. Kiara and Kovu watch.

Kiara: She is so beautiful.

Kovu: She will be a beautiful queen, "one who will make us all very proud." He smiles at Rafiki, remembering what Rafiki said long ago about Kiara.

Rafiki: "chuckles and smiles" Indeed.

Kiara licks Larani to wake her up

Larani: Aw, Mom, just 5 more minutes?

Kiara nudges her. No. You have to have a bath.

Larani: All right, all right, I'm up. Kiara gives Larani a bath.

Kawnu, Larani's best friend, comes up. Hey, Larani. Wanna come play at the water hole with me? We can make mud pies and chase the hornbills around!

Larani: Oh, can I, Mom? Please? PLEASE?

Kiara sighs: Oh, all right, You are done with your bath. But don't torture those poor hornbills, OK?

The cubs run off. Larani: Sure, Mom!

She and Kawnu play at the waterhole until it starts to get dark. Kawnu hears his parents call him. Kawnu: Oops! Aw man, I gotta go. My folks are calling me. Later, Larani!

Larani: Bye!

Kiara, from a distance: Larani! Come home now!

Larani starts walking, until, after a while, she suddenly bumps into something, and screams, and the thing she bumped into screams. Larani: Wait a minute. You're a . . . she looks at the creature closely tiger!

The tiger: Yes, my name's Emala.

Larani: But there are no tigers here anymore! They all ran away after the Great Fire! My parents told me all about it!

Emala: Yes. My father, mother and I are the only tigers left in Africa. We- um, wish to live in the Pridelands.

Kovu and Kiara: ROAR!!!!!!!!!!

Kiara: We heard you scream.

Kovu: WHAT'S going on?

Emala introduces herself and her parents walk up.

Kovu: Tigers?! There have been no tigers here since the Great Fire. He remembers . . . Tigers came here, set fire to the Pridelands, killed lions and many other animals, and also trees and plants, all just to spite us! So we exiled all tigers to the other end of Africa.

Emala: But our family had nothing to do with the Great Fire! Please!

Larani: Dad, Mom! I believe her! Let her stay!

Kovu: "sigh" All right, you may stay. I'm sorry I was skeptical before.

Larani and Emala: YAY!

Emala's mom: Thank you. My name is Sarana.

Emala's dad: And I'm Merchala.

The adults introduce themselves and talk. Larani and Emala run off and run into Kawnu.

Kawnu: A tiger?

Larani: It's OK, Kawnu. Mom and Dad said they can stay. Their family didn't have anything to do with the Great Fire.

Kawnu: Oh, well, a new friend! Cool, that's great!

Larani: Let's play tag!

Emala and Kawnu: OK!

Larani: You're it, Emala!

While the cubs are laughing and playing, they do not know that someone is watching them. Zenaki, a zebra, walks up to them.

Zenaki: You! Tiger! What are you doing in the Pridelands? The cubs gasp, frightened. The parents rush up.

Kovu: ROAR!!!!!!!!

Kawnu's dad, Lamana: What's the matter?

Sarana: Leave our children ALONE!

Kawnu: Dad!

Emala: Mommy!

Zenaki: We don't take kindly to tigers. Have you all forgotten about the Great Fire?!

Sarana: But we didn't have anything to do with it!

Zenaki: Oh, it's all lies! You can never trust a tiger!

Zenaki's wife, Sanaka: Zenaki, Stop this! They said they didn't do anything, why don't you trust them?

Zenaki's daughter, Lena: Daddy, please don't act like that!

Zenaki: HUSH! you two! We will do what we must do. Right, fellas? He calls to a group of Pride land animals from behind him.

Pride Land animals: Yes! Yeah! That's right!

Zenaki: Let's get 'em!

Pride Land Animals: YEAH!!!!!!! The animals start attacking. Everyone is fighting, while Lena is trying to get through the crowd to get to her dad.

Lena: Daddy! Daddy, please! Where are you? She pushes through the crowd, when accidentally, Zenaki steps on her leg.

Lena: OW! She falls to the ground.

Everyone stops fighting and gathers around.

Sanaka screams: It's broken! You broke our daughter's leg! There are sounds of gasps and chatter through the crowd.

Rafiki runs up. What has happened?

Lena: I-ow-broke my leg. Ow.

Rafiki: Come now, I will help you. He helps Lena stand up and carries her to his house. Everyone follows. About an hour later, Lena comes out of Rafiki's house, with a cast on her leg. Lena runs to her mom.

Lena's mom: Oh, Lena!

Lena: Mommy! They hug.

Zenaki: I am so sorry, baby.

Zenaki: I have realized now that war affects our children too. I am so sorry that I did not trust you, Tigers. If there is anything that I can do to prove I'm sorry, just ask.

Merchala: We just ask that you be our friends and for everyone to trust and love tigers from now on. Merchala and Zenaki smile.

A couple of weeks later. Lena, Kawnu, Emala and Larani are playing happily after Lena's cast had been removed.

Lena: My leg feels much better!

Emala: I am really sorry you got hurt, Lena.

Larani: But I am happy that there is peace between tigers and PrideLanders now!

Kawnu: It's great that we could all be friends in the end, isn't it?

All four: Yeah!

Emala: Let's play hide-and pounce!

The others: Yeah!

Emala: I'll be it. One . . . two . . . three . . .

Laughing, the others run off to hide.

Emala: nine . . . ten! Ready or not, here I come! Laughing, Emala runs after them.
