Kovu and Kiara's Games

By Miwalk

Every day, Kiara and Kovu would meet in the outlands to play. They would fight (playing of course) and play hide and go seek. Zira would sometimes watch, remembering how Scar and Sarafina used to play. Zira always watched them play games in the elephant graveyard, where Scar met the hyena cubs, Shenzi, Banzai and Ed. Zira never played with them though, she never would play. She didn't know how. So Zira would just train herself to hunt and survive.

Kovu would win at fighting and would say, boasting, "No autographs, please." Kiara would win at hide and seek and say, "Scratch that!"

Vitani would play too, but she would be rude to Kiara, so she couldn't play anymore. She didn't mind because Zira would train her at these times. Zira, every day at sunset would call Kovu in for his training. Nuka was always tiring to get on Zira's good side and belittle Kovu. She didn't care, because Scar, her mate, chose Kovu, who wasn't his son.

But they say nothing good will last, and so it didn't. Simba would send Timon and Pumbaa to find her. They eventually found her each day. Kiara convinced them that they shouldn't tell Simba about still playing with Kovu. One day Simba sent Zazu to find Kiara. Zazu, being biased against the outsiders, insisted that he would tell Simba. Kiara told Kovu "See ya tomorrow."

Only Kiara didn't come back. Kovu waited all day where they played. He couldn't understand why Kiara wouldn't come back. Zira came up to Kovu and said, "That pride-lander broke your heart huh? We need to get back at her! For this she will die!!!"

Kovu looked up at his mother. Her eyes were filled with pure hate. No love. Not even when she looked down at him did her eyes change much. "Now let's train." said Zira, leaving to go to the obstacle course. "Now son, you have to go through the obstacle course in less then a minute."

Kovu stared at the termite mound wall, the deep rapid river full of jagged rocks, the slippery log over a canyon, and the termite maze.

"Kovu: ready, start!" Zira said, and Kovu started to climb the mound.

"I've got to scale this." Kovu thought to himself.

"This is Pride Rock! You have to climb it!" Zira screamed.

Kovu finally scaled it and went to the river.

"This is the main river, you must swim across!" Zira said.

Kovu jumped in and started swimming. He swam across, nervous that it was full of crocodiles. He ran to the log and started to slowly crawl on it. "You need balance and coordination!" Zira said.

Kovu ran through the maze, finding dead ends, but ran through.

"You never give up!" Zira said.

When Kovu finished, Zira said "Good, I can't even go that fast!"

     Kovu said "I moved quick!"

Kiara was being taught to be a queen. She was quizzed by Simba, who made sure she knew every thing a queen would know, everything Mufasa taught him.

"Now Kiara, what is the most important thing for a queen to know?" asked Simba.

"That if the circle of life is broken, life will end."

"Good. Now you can play, but don't go near the outlands."

Now it was Kovu's turn to play. He was watching the termites fly around his head. He got low to the ground, waited for the right moment.

     "Roar!"

He didn't kill the termite, but just caught it. He giggled as it tickled his paws and flew away. Zira, who was watching, was angry.

"Kovu! Don't let it go! What's the matter with you?"

"But mother! It wasn't hurting anyone!"

"There is no room for weakness here my son. Remember, Scar took you in and accepted you as his own son."

     "But he wasn't my father."

"No, but he chose you to be the next king. When you rule will no longer be forced to live in these dry, barren, disgusting, pathetic, termite-infested outlands!"

Kovu and Kiara would meet again and again, but Timon, Pumbaa and Zazu would catch them each time and bring them home.
