Xander: You know, I don't need this.
Cordelia: Yeah, like
a hole in the head.
A turn on the saying "I need that like I need a hole in the head."
With the obvious caveat that no one needs a hole in the head.
Xander: Then teach it that dreidel
song.
A dreidel is a four sided top that is
used in a sort of game as part of the Jewish Hanuhkah celebration. Try
an online version of the
game.
The dreidel song is roughly equivalent
to a Christmas carol (though it carries little religious significance).
Buffy: I killed my Giga
pet.
Giga pet's are one of the "virtual pet"
toys that started
in Japan and have spread around the world. The toys beep to request various
types of care from their owner and will die if neglected. Being a small,
plastic toy, they will also die if smashed.
Buffy: Did I ask for back
seat mommying.
A play on the term back seat driver, where
a passenger insists on giving detailed suggestions to the person operating
the vehicle.
Giles: I suppose there is a sort of Machiavellian
ingenuity to your transgression.
Italian philosopher,
author and politician Niccolo Machiavelli
(1469 - 1527) is best known for his work The Prince in which he
presents the philosophy the ends justifies the means. Though it is
probably unfair, the name Machiavelli is associated with this ruthless
pursuit of a goal.
Buffy: My egg, it went
postal on me.
Due to the number of highly publicized incidents involving postal worker
becoming violent, the term going postal has
come to mean a crazed violence.
