INCIDENT REPORT

NAME: Woody Harrelson

LOCATION: Columbus, Ohio

ARREST: October 10, 1982

CHARGE: Disorderly conduct

One evening in early October, police were called concerning a young man whose solo dancing in the middle of the street was bringing traffic to a halt. As he stumbled and fell, two police officers walked onto the road. The officers were concerned that the youth was not only causing a traffic jam but possibly endangering his own life. After young Woody Harrelson fell to his knees in the middle of the street, he was pulled to his feet by the officers and led to a waiting police van. As he was placed in the van, one of the officers noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath. When the police officers began to drive off, the back door mysteriously opened and Mr. Harrelson, laughing maniacally, jumped out of the moving police van and ran. Officers chased him and when they caught up with him, the youth punched one of the officers, knocking him to the ground. The other officer, however, succeeded in handcuffing Mr. Harrelson and taking him to jail. Mr. Harrelson, who was booked for disorderly conduct, was found guilty of misdemeanor assault and resisting arrest. Because of his young age, twenty-one, and his lack of prior arrests, the court was lenient: He was fined $390 and released.
