Gloria: Jacques? It's Gloria. I got held up. I need you to find my client. I guarantee
he's at the bar. About 50, overdressed. Do you see him? Good. Now sit with him
and get him drunk. And do not let him come on to the waiters. I need him
focused on me. Well, be sweet to him, ok? He's a major buyer, and we need the
          business. Love you.
Kingman: Now, here's an awkward moment.
Gloria: I told you never to come here again.
Kingman: Miss Cadeau, please meet my associate, the cat man. Feel free to be alarmed by
his appearance. Cat is, unfortunately, as unstable as he looks. The gallery
seems a little empty, Gloria. I like it that way. If I were the sort of person
who is tortured by suspicions, I might think you were leaving.
Gloria: I'll have it by the end of the week.
Kingman: At the end of the week you could be anywhere, along with that beautiful bird.
               Where's my bird, Gloria?
Gloria: What are you going to do? Shoot it out of me?
Kingman: Much too crude.
Cat: We'll sex it out of her.
Kingman: I doubt that you could. Oh, no, Gloria, no sudden movements, it's right here.
Gloria: Do you want it... or not?
Kingman: Standoff.
Gloria: I think not.
Kingman: Cat smokes much more herb than is good for him... or anyone else, including
you. He is entirely unpredictable. Where is it, Gloria?
Gloria: You'll never find out if I'm dead. Tell him, Dennis. No Gloria, no bird.
Kingman: Regrettably true.
Gloria: The tie goes to the good guy, right, Kingman?
Kingman: And who would that be, Gloria? And who would that bloody well be, Gloria?

[ knocking ]
Victor: Coming.
[ knocking ]
Victor: All right! Coming.
Gloria: Hi, Victor. Long time.
Victor: Hi.

Action!

Gloria: 12 cops at a stag party. The music starts and I come out. And Donny was just
freaking. I don't know why. He put me up to it. I was the one freaking. I
didn't know where to look. I don't even like to take my clothes off at the
gym, and here I am in front of every guy in the unit. If you wouldn't have
stopped me, I don't know how far I would have gone. Oh, well, not far though.
I'm such a chicken. Five years.
Victor: Yeah.
Gloria: Do I still look the same?
Victor: Better.
Gloria: So where is Donny?
Victor: In Kingston, you know.
Gloria: He transferred?
Victor: He's in jail.
Gloria: Oh, right. Oh...still?
Victor: 12 years.
Gloria: Yeah, but I mean good behaviour and stuff...
Victor: Cops who lose it, they don't usually get parole.
Gloria: What?
Victor: I don't know, I could never... honestly, I could never figure out what you
           were doing with him.
Gloria: Instead of you?
Victor: No.
Gloria: 'Cause that's what I was always wondering.
Victor: What? Now you tell me. aie!
Gloria: Thank god you were here. I mean, what are the odds you're going to live in the
same place five years later?
Victor: Hide in plain sight.
Gloria: What?
Victor: Nothing. I just-- I never change.
Gloria: Lucky for me. So you still alone?
Victor: Oh, yeah. Yeah. I wasn't for a while, but... I am now. You know .
Gloria: I'm sorry. So...you feel up to talking about this?
Victor: Yeah. Well...
Gloria: My life is a lot different now from what it was when we first met. You
remember what I was doing?
Victor: Yeah, waitressing, right?
Gloria: And going to school at night.
Victor: Right.
Gloria: Art history.
Victor: Art history.
Gloria: I turned out to be quite good at it. Um...I do Asian art. I have my own gallery now.
Victor: Oh, good, you deserve it.
Gloria: Thanks. Anyway, I got involved with this guy, Dennis Kingman. He wanted to buy
a piece I had on consignment, so I said sure. Well, then I started to hear
           things about him.
Victor: Things like what?
Gloria: Drugs, stolen goods, you name it. Needless to say, he's not the type of person
I want to deal with, so I sold the piece to another person. I thought that
           would get rid of him.
Victor: But it only brought him closer?
Gloria: Too close. Now he wants me to get it back and give it to him. I mean, he's
           really intense.
Victor: Hmm.
Gloria: He hit me, Victor.
Victor: You should file charges.
Gloria: That wouldn't be smart.
Victor: Why not?
Gloria: I just can't get in any deeper. I just want him away from me. you couldn't,
like, talk to him? Just tell him you're a cop. Tell him to lay off.
Victor: I'm not a cop any more.
Gloria: You're not?
Victor: It's a long story.
Gloria: Well, I guess you can't help, then.
Victor: Well, I could still talk to him, though.

Li Ann: Hey.
Victor: How was the surveillance?
Li Ann: Uh, Mac's still on it.
Still?
Li Ann: Yeah.
Victor: I thought it was quiet in here.
Li Ann: The Director sent us to this club to look for contract killers. So we have to
fit in. Mac asks this girl to dance. I ask this guy to dance, who knows how to
move really well, by the way, until I realize that he's a woman. They're all
transsexuals. And the woman that Mac is with used to be a man.
Victor: Then what happened?
Li Ann: So the guy I'm with loses interest, but Mac and his woman disappear. I haven't
seen him since. It was really weird. It was cool, but it was just weird.
Director: And when are we going to realize that there is more to life than white bread?
A thousand flavours. A million experiences waiting to be sampled by the open
of mind.
Li Ann: I'm not that open.
Director: No, of course not. Living your life of quiet desperation.
Li Ann: Have you heard from Mac?
Victor: It could be months. Bunch of transsexual criminals? He's going to fit right in.
Director: I have heard from him. He's very uncomfortable, but you know Mac, he sticks on
the case until he cracks it. Meanwhile, this will keep you busy. Blitzberg and
Wong. Architects and developers. I need you to get me a file from their
office. Details in the briefing. It's vitally important, and it has to be
tonight.
Victor: Can you, uh, do without me?
Li Ann: Sure.
Victor: Ok.
Li Ann: Where are you going?
Victor: Just finishing up a case.
Li Ann: In Bulgaria?
Victor: What? Bulgaria?
Li Ann: Bulgari perfume, darling. You smell of it.
Victor: Really?

Victor: What?
Cat: What do you mean, what?
Victor: I got spinach in my teeth?
Cat: No, that would be gross.
Victor: I'm looking for Dennis Kingman.
Cat: Never heard of him.
Victor: Really. His name's outside, on your sign.
Cat: Yeah, well, uh, you don't look like much of a customer.
Victor: You don't look like much of an obstacle.
Cat:  [ sniffing ] what time does the concert start?
Kingman: Ought I to call the police?
Cat: Sure.
Victor: Then maybe you can explain to them what you did to Gloria Cadeau.
Kingman: You like it? It's yours for a quarter million.
Victor: Mm, no, little out of my snack bracket.
Kingman: I like a man who knows his limits. Although I assumed any friend of gloria's
would not have use for that expression.
Victor: How do you know her? She says you hit her.
Kingman: If you believe that, then you must be very angry with me. This is a jadeite
statue from Thailand. A hunting hawk, emblematic of the royal house. 12 inches
high, early 18th century, perfect condition. Covered in emeralds.
Victor: She sold it to somebody else. That's the way it works.
Kingman: I had a deal. A million up front, another two on delivery.
Victor: Three million. So she got a better offer.
Kingman: She stole my deposit.
Victor: Prove it.
Kingman: Here's the cheque. The client for whom I'm buying is extremely angry. There's
no telling what he will do. Gloria is in over her head.
Victor: So why did you trust her with a million?
Kingman: Please. Why does any man trust gloria?

[ chuckling ]
Director: So how are Blitzberg and Wong?
Li Ann: Not only are they architects, but they also breed guard dogs.
Director: Oh, did I not mention that?
Li Ann: No. I hate guard dogs, especially when they come with real guards.
Director: You didn't have to kill anyone, did you?
Li Ann: I came really close. And I can't help noticing that these blueprints are for
the building across from your condo.
Director: Which will block my view of the harbour if it gets built. These will help make
              sure that it doesn't.
Li Ann: Thank you, I risked my life for nothing.
Director: It's not nothing, Li Ann. I love that view. It's important to have a life
outside of this nefarious agency, you know.

Gloria: So you are taking his word over mine. Thank you.
Victor: That's not it.
Gloria: Then what is it?
Victor: Forget it, all right? This has got nothing to do with me.
Gloria: What did he tell you?
Victor: Nothing.
Gloria: What?
Victor: All right, did you sleep with the guy?
Gloria: Ha, is that what he told you?
Victor: No, not in so many words. It just...it felt like, I don't know, like he knew a
lot about you.
Gloria: He wanted to buy a statue; I sold it to someone else, end of story.
Victor: No, sequel. He's got a cancelled cheque made out to you for a million bucks.
Gloria: Oh, well, of course he does. He's a thief, a fraud artist. So, he writes a
cheque himself and then he cancels it himself, and then, and then, he holds it
up to you and you believe him. Well, no wonder you're not a cop any more.
Victor: Oh, god. The cheque's bogus?
Gloria: Bogus?
Victor: It's fake.
Gloria: Yes.
Victor: He didn't give you the million?
Gloria: Would I be standing here if I had a million dollars?
Victor: So he's got a bum cheque sitting in his drawer just in case a guy like me
comes asking questions.
Gloria: Apparently.
Victor: No, doesn't add up.
Gloria: Fine. If that's what you think of me--
Victor: Come on, what am I supposed to think?
Gloria: I don't know. Maybe you're supposed to think that... that you were right to
like me five years ago, that maybe I never stopped thinking of you, that maybe
I had lots of places to go and I picked you for a reason.
Victor: What reason?
Gloria: What reason? Do I really have to come right out and say it? To see you,
Victor. To see you again. To see if you still liked me. All the time... when I
was with Donny, you were watching me. Which was right. It was fine. But all
the time, all I could think about was you. I wanted you so much. You were so
real, so true. I still am...I still am who I was, victor. Don't you know
           what's true any more?

Victor: It's worth at least three million. The guy who's after it's some kind of
           gangster. His name's Kingman.
Director: Hmm, you surprise me, Victor. I thought your taste in art ran to pictures with
staples in the fold, not sculpture. So how did you come to hear about this statue?
Victor: From a friend. She has a gallery.
Director: Your friend wouldn't happen to be named Gloria Cadeau, by any chance, would she?
Victor: How did you know?
Director: What do you think's in these files, Victor, current address?  Favourite
colour? Astrological sign? I have everything. Everything. Believe me. I stay
up long winter nights and weep over you.
Victor: I'm sure. Now, what about Kingman? Do we go after him?
Director: No.
Victor: Why not?
Director: Because you think, you guess, you hear -- you don't know. Therefore
he is not a suitable agency target.
Victor: Let me go after him on my own time.
Director: You don't have any. All your time is mine. You stay away from Kingman. And
that goes for Gloria Cadeau as well.
Victor: What does she matter to you?
Director: The real question is, what does she mean to you?

Li Ann: So who's this woman?
Victor: Back when I was a cop, she went out with a guy in my unit. She was really
smart. She was a really nice girl. And then they broke up and he went into the
slammer and I just totally lost track of her.
Li Ann: What brought her back?
Victor: This. She's dealing in art now.
Li Ann: This is the ko chang hawk. This is priceless. Not even the Tangs could believe
            it was stolen.
Victor: It was stolen?
Li Ann: Yeah, 20 years ago, from the royal palace in Bangkok. Do you know what
political significance this has? The Thais have been going crazy trying to get
it back. Who has it now?
Victor: Well, Gloria was brokering it for this client, but she peddled it to someone else.
Li Ann: We have to find it.
Victor: The director said to stay away.
Li Ann: To hell with the director.
Victor: Excuse me?
Li Ann: I have had it with the director. Do you know I almost got chewed up by
dobermans so she could suck gin with a clear view of the harbour? I mean, she
jerks us around like we're puppets.
Victor: I just never heard you talk like that before.
Li Ann: I've never been this pissed off before.
Victor: Wow.
Li Ann: Ok. Then we'll find it, just us. The hell with the director.

Kingman: That's all you have?
Cat: Yes, well, that's as right a lead as I've got.
Kingman: Thank you. Cat... how often have I warned you against that noxious herb?
Cat: [ coughing ] You can't really be Jamaican, you know.
Kingman: There is more to the place than trenchtown. Miss Cadeau disappears. Her
champion turns up. Since she's in none of her usual haunts, the odds are she
is with the champion. So? Despite our long acquaintance with Miss Cadeau, we
have never before seen the champion. He is, therefore, most likely from her
past life. That means police associations. A phone call to one's friends on
the force, a rough description, and...
Cat: You found him.
Kingman: A name only. Victor Mansfield. I now need you to discover where he lives.

Gloria: You have to believe me. I had no idea it was stolen.
Victor: It's all right. We believe you.
Gloria: If it was in the royal collection in Bangkok, I wouldn't have seen it. I had
no idea, no way to know.
Victor: I thought you studied art history.
Gloria: Yeah, well, I didn't graduate.
Victor: So how did you get a job?,
Gloria: It's like everything else in life. Nobody checks. Anyway, I ended up doing ok.
Li Ann: Except you didn't recognize a stolen statue.
Victor: It's all right. Just have to get it back. The client you sold it to is legit?
Gloria: Oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, sort of.
Li Ann: Sort of?
Gloria: Her name is Alanna Thursby, and, uh, her family's in banking, shipping,
insurance. I mean, she's not a gangster like Kingman, but she's got more money
than god. So the rules don't mean all that much. She's kind of, uh... I don't
           know, amoral.
Victor: Right, so we tell her the truth. The statue was stolen, she has to return it.
Gloria: After she paid $3 million for it?
Victor: She'll get her money back.
Gloria: From who?
Victor: I don't know, from whoever it is that you sold it for in the first ace.
Gloria: Count Eugenio Montini. He lives in Italy. And the statue goes back to
Thailand? I don't think he'll give us three mil for that arrangement.
Li Ann: Ok, so... I can't believe I'm saying this. We steal it. We give it back to Thailand.
Gloria: Are you nuts? What good will that do?
Li Ann: To get it back to its rightful owners.
Gloria: Except you steal it from my client.
Li Ann: Well, she's rich and amoral. You said so yourself.
Gloria: So that makes it ok to rip her off?
Victor: Gloria... she's in the chain of stolen goods. And so are you, for that matter.
Gloria: Yeah. I'm sorry. I'm just not thinking straight.
Victor: Oh, it's all right. Where does she live?
Gloria: On this compound on Bridle Path. It's very high security. Be like breaking
into a Stalag. She gives these weird parties though.
Victor: So?
Gloria: So...you could crash one tonight. She brings in men for her and her friends,
you know? Like male models, athletes, boy toys.
Li Ann: Where would we find someone like that, though?
[ knocking ]
Mac: Don't worry. I'm not selling anything. All right, hands up, anyone who wants
to take over on the killer transsexuals.
Gloria: Hello.
Mac: Hi.
Li Ann: We're planning a robbery.
Mac: Life goes on, I mean, it's got to beat the transsexuals, right -- I mean,
they're nice people, you know, for killers. Just that they have a little too
         much energy for me.
Victor: So Alanna has these parties.
Gloria: Yeah, they're like roman orgies, but in reverse. Like, instead of men
harassing women, you have all these power women treating men like dirt.
I mean, that sounds fair. They bring in all these young guys and they start sexing them up.
           It's pretty wild.
Mac: Wow. How does this involve us? Oh, you're not serious. Do you expect me to
just allow a bunch of rich oversexed women to just maul me like I'm some kind
of a, a, a, a blow-up doll? No...n- forget it. I don't think so.

Alanna: Hey, girls. Fresh meat.
Mac: Uhh... Hey, there's a reason they're called private parts.
Alanna: Have we met?
Mac: It's my first time.
Alanna: I can't believe we would have overlooked you. Find us some champagne, you two.
            I hope you're open-minded, Mr...
Mac: Ramsay. Mac Ramsay. Sure -- two's company, three's a life-changing experience. Right?
Alanna: Why don't you head to the playroom? I'll be along shortly for a little... life change.

Li Ann: He's going to cut the power in two minutes.
Victor: Ok, I'll get ready. [ beeping ] it's done.
Li Ann: Oh.
Victor: Let's move.

Butler: Excuse me, sir. That leads to the basement.
Mac: I'm a guest of Alanna's. I was, uh... looking for the, uh--
Butler: The playroom? It's the second door.
Mac: Mmm.
Butler: Is there a problem, sir?
Mac: No, it's not a problem. Uh, just move a little bit to the left.
Butler: What?
Mac: Just...easy, right there. Right there. That's perfect, that's perfect.
[ Mac hits the butler]

Victor: For once in his life he's ahead of schedule.
Li Ann: First time for everything.

Alanna: What do you mean, the systems are down?
We're checking it now.
Alanna: Don't check. Get to the vault.

Mac: How'd you guys get in here?
Li Ann: You opened the window for us.
Mac: No, I didn't.
Victor: So who did? The leprechauns?
Mac: That's very funny. Still seeing little people in your sleep?
Victor: Look! The vault's already open.
Li Ann: Something very strange is going on around here.
[ shooting begins]

He's hurt. I'll call an ambulance.
Alanna: Show me the face first. Well...at least we know where the statue's gone.

Li Ann: Any theories?
Victor: Kingman must have stolen the statue. I mean, who else would it be?
Li Ann: But he didn't know where it was. Unless Gloria told him.
Victor: No. She wouldn't do that. Well--
[ pager beeping ]
Victor: Not me.
Mac: Oh, good, transsexuals are back at it. [ sighing ] you're buying.
Victor: There goes the finest boy toy we've ever worked with. See you.
[ phone ringing ]
Victor: That's mine. Yeah.
Kingman: This is Dennis Kingman. I have something of yours.
Victor: Kingman. Yeah, we know. The statue.
Kingman: The statue? The statue is what I want. What I've got is... Gloria. But I am
prepared to trade. Get me the bird in 24 hours or... well, you seem to be a
person of strong imagination. I need not press the issue. And now, a word from
the cause of all this, Miss Gloria Cadeau. Gloria.
Gloria: Be careful, Vic. They know where you live.
Kingman: You will trace this call, of course. Ring me back on the number you find, once
you have the bird. You really do look fetching like this, my dear. It suits
                you perfectly.
Victor: 555- 0122. We're missing something here.
Li Ann: Yeah. Like everything.
Victor: Maybe, you know, maybe we could talk to the director.
Li Ann: I would rather eat bees.
Victor: All right, this is no time for a feud, all right? They've got Gloria.
Li Ann: But we can't ask the director. We're weak here. She reinforces strength. It's
            her favourite saying.
Victor: Right, next to "lick my stilettos." Got any other ideas?
Li Ann: You bet.

Alanna: Let me get this straight. You admit you broke in here and stole my statue?
Li Ann: No, I broke in here and and I tried to steal it. But the other team got there
first.
Alanna: The other team? Aren't you from the consulate?
Li Ann: What consulate?
Alanna: I think you'd better leave.
Li Ann: [ clicking ] I said, what consulate?
Alanna: Thailand. I thought you were Thai.
Li Ann: Chinese. But, don't worry, you all look alike to me too. So why would you
            think I was Thai?
Alanna: Because the statue was stolen from Thailand's royal house.
Li Ann: And you bought it from Gloria Cadeau. You know it got her in a lot of trouble.
Alanna: Oh? What's she stepped in now?
Victor: Dennis Kingman will kill her if he doesn't get the bird back.
Alanna: Sounds like Dennis. Well, wish I could help. Gloria's wild. I like her, but
the bird's at the consulate. Couple of days, it's in Bangkok.
Li Ann: Which is where it belongs, after all.
Alanna: Easy for you. It's not your four million.
Victor: You knew it was stolen.
Alanna: 'Course I knew. I'm mean, not dumb.
Victor: Did Gloria know?
Alanna: Now you're being dumb. Of course she did. Why, she a friend of yours?
Victor: That's an interesting question.

Li Ann: Thailand consulate.
Victor: I have no idea how we're going to get it out of there. I mean, they've got
barbed wire, they've got videos, whole mess of guns.
Li Ann: Boy, those Thais sure are suspicious.
Victor: I hate that in people.
Li Ann: Maybe you could do with more of it.
Victor: What is that supposed to mean?
Li Ann: I don't know. Look, how well do you know Gloria? You're getting in deep here.
What if she knew it was stolen?
Victor: I've known her for years, ok? She went out with my friend.
Li Ann: Who's in jail for extortion.
Victor: And that's her fault? Look, so she's from nowhere. All right, she pulled
herself up. Everybody, all the people in her life, they sold out, they lit on
her or they just totally quit on her, and here she is, alive and well --
           what's so bad about that?
Li Ann: Nothing. You make her sound like you.
Victor: Maybe she is.
Li Ann: I have to tell you, I don't see it, but if you do, that's fine. I'm with you.
Victor: What am I doing?
Li Ann: You're on a quest, and obviously nothing is going to stop you until you get to
where you're going. And since I'm your friend, I have to go with you.
Victor: You don't have to do anything.
Li Ann: Yes, I do. Just like what you're doing for Gloria. Right or wrong, we're both
caught up in what we care about. It's loyalty.
Victor: So what do we do?
Li Ann: When you have one card left, play it.

Director: The hanged man. How appropriate. This is, after all, a suicide mission.
Victor: Well, we have to try.
Director: You realize if you get caught the Thais are going to do things to you that'll
make Murphy and Camier look like trappist monks. And I won't stop them. Nor
will I give you Mac. He's making some fascinating inroads with those transsexuals.
Victor: Don't care. I'll do it myself.
Li Ann: Oh, no, you won't.
Victor: Yes, I will.
Li Ann: I will.
Victor: She's my friend.
Li Ann: And you're my friend. Victor, we're not shooting our way in. We'll have to
bluff. And you're not going to pass for Thai, so that leaves me.
Director: My brave band of heroes. Life would be boring without you. So, to give you
even a ghost of a chance... the Thai consulate -- while you were busy
distracting the guard dogs at Blitzberg and Wong, I had Dobrinsky steal these.
Li Ann: You mean the new building blocking your view was just an excuse to get me in there?
Director: Not exactly -- can we just say it was a win-win situation for all concerned?
Victor: Well, there's a vault right in the middle of the building. Boom -- the
            statue's probably there.
Director: I give you one chance in 10. Really, I hate to see you throw yourselves away
like this after all I've put into you. And it makes me very angry when you
disobey orders. So I won't stop you. Nor will I save you from yourselves.

Li Ann: Uh, go where?
Victor: Uh, the Thai consulate. Remember? Tonight's very dangerous mission?
Li Ann: Yeah, yeah, you're not coming.
Victor: Am too.
Li Ann: Victor, we agreed.
Victor: You agreed. I stopped talking.
Li Ann: You're too big. You're not going to fit in the air vents. And it's the only way in.
Victor: I'll lose weight. Let's go.
Li Ann: [ speaking foreign language ]
Li Ann, you and I were engaged for a year, and I still don't speak Cantonese.
Li Ann: That was Thai. You know what I just said? I said, "drop your gun or die." you
            would have been dead.
Victor: You speak Thai?
Li Ann: And you don't.
Victor: You can't keep me out because of that.
Li Ann: Let's try this. 6'2", freckles, round eyes.
Victor: You know, it's illegal to hire on the basis of race.
Li Ann: Drop me in front of the consulate, then go home, and I'll come back with the statue.
Victor: And what if you don't?
Li Ann: I'm dead. You can have my stereo.

Guard: [ gun cocking ] cool. I'll get a promotion for this. Ah...
Li Ann: It's not a gun. Sushada Kam, royal Thai security.
Guard: Wow, one of the king's personal team. What are you doing here?
Li Ann: We're testing you. Good job.
Guard: The statue ships tomorrow, and we can't take any chances.
Li Ann: I can see that. So would you walk me through your perimeter?
Guard: Sure. You'll be very impressed. So, welcome to town. Still kind of mild for
this time of year. Rains a lot, though, you know. Can really kill your day
           off. [ speaking thai ]
Li Ann: [ speaking thai ]
[guard holds gun to Li Ann's head]
Li Ann: Was it something I said?
Guard: I asked you if it was hot in Thailand right now. And you said the shrimp
           special was very good.
Li Ann: Ok, so I'm out of practice.
Guard: Oh, yes, this is bomb. They'll transfer me back home now. Oh, have you ever
spent winter here? Brutal. Oh, but of course weather won't matter much to you
once we're through with you. Go on.
Li Ann: You want to know something?
Guard: What?
Li Ann: You're really boring.
[hits the guard]

Cat: No red stripe.
Victor: No what?
Cat: Red stripe. Jamaican beer. It's irie.
Victor: Uh, irie?
Cat: Yeah. Irie. Cool, fine and righteous. You're looking cool yourself. No
        worries.
Victor: Well, why should I worry? You can't kill me. Kingman hasn't got his dingus yet.
Cat: His what?
Victor: His dingus. The thing he's looking for. Come on, don't you watch old movies?
Cat: Do you mean like E.T.? I love that movie, man! [ imitating e.t. ]: Ouch. An
alien can feel pain, man. It stoned me, man. 6 years old. Just stoned me.
Victor: What are you doing here?
Cat: Making sure you don't get the bird and split.
Victor: I can't split. You've got my friend.
Cat: I got friends too. I'd rather have the bird.
Victor: Well, you know, you're way too stoned to stop me anyway. How many of me are
you seeing? Three? Am I over here? Or am I that one? Wow.
Cat: Next time I aim for the one in the middle.
Victor: Ok, well, I obviously underestimated you, cat man. Stoned does not necessarily
            mean stupid.
Cat: Hey, thanks -- you know, not a lot of people realize that, man.
Victor: Well, since you're so smart, you know what that is?
Cat: Uh...oh! A pager.
Victor: Remote light switch.
[ gun firing ]
Victor: You know what I think? I think you were born dumb. The dope's just an excuse.

Look, the babysitter's here. Just in time for you to tell us where your boss is.

Victor: Gentlemen, I know where your hawk is. Yeah. It's at the sick transit gallery.
It's on Adelaide between John and Peter. I don't know why. It's this
godforsaken town. All the streets are named for people. Listen, I've got the
statue. Just haul ass down here.
Kingman: Ah, here we are. With the deadline about to expire.
Victor: You wouldn't have killed her.
Kingman: Bravado ill suits you, sir. I most certainly would have.
Victor: You know, I would back off the tough talk if I were you. I already took your
gunsel out of the picture. Now...untie her.
Kingman: Easily done.
[ gun cocking ]
Kingman: Well, sir, how do you propose to structure our exchange?
Victor: You put your gun down on the table. I'll put the statue beside it.
Kingman: I would then be unarmed.
Victor: I've got no reason to kill you. It's the girl I'm after, not the bird. It's the only way.
Kingman: I see that it is. You are a tough negotiator. [ chuckling ] I tell you
honestly, sir, I like you more and more at every meeting.
[Gloria aims a gun at Victor]
Gloria: I'll do it. I will.
Victor: What the hell are you doing?
Gloria: Give me the bird. Don't be stupid.
Kingman: Why does any man trust Gloria?
Gloria: I said, give me the bird, Victor.
Victor: I know you. You don't mean it. You're just wired, that's all. Put it down and
           we'll call it square.
Gloria: Square. I like that. Come on, give it to me. Come on. You know, at first I
thought we'd split it, Vic. I used to split with Donny all the time. But then
           I realized... you're square.
Victor: Not all cops are crooked, Gloria.
Gloria: So I see. Well, live and learn. [ pounding ] what's that?
Victor: Thai commandos. I told them where we were. They're coming for you. I'm giving
            you to them.
Gloria: I've got the gun.
Victor: With four rounds. They've got m-16s, full clips. You could shoot me. but then
            I couldn't call them off.
Gloria: You can do that?
Victor: Yeah. But I won't.
Gloria: I've done all this for you.
Victor: Know what the strange thing is? Part of me wants to believe you. [ pounding ]

Director: May I have this dance? Don't do it. Come on, walk with me instead. These
streets are so dark, you never know what might happen.
Victor: I don't want to see this.
Director: You have to. You need closure.
Victor: I am such a schmuck.
Director: Oh, I don't know. You got the right result. The statue's back where it
belongs, and Gloria's going to do her time... in this country. She might even
get to meet her old boyfriend in jail.
Victor: I'm never going to trust you again.
Director: [ laughing ] So when did you before? Total lack of trust, past, present and
future. Who knows, Victor? This could be the start of a beautiful
               friendship... but I doubt it.
