CAUTION! This story contains foul language and mature subject matters.

It was 3:30 in the morning. Callie called Sydney from her cell
phone. Garrett answered half asleep.

GARRETT: What?

Callie's voice was cracking as she spoke.

CALLIE: Garrett? I, uh, … it's Callie. … I, uh, … I need to talk to
Sydney.

	The phone woke Sydney.

SYDNEY: Who is it?

GARRETT: It's Callie. Something's wrong.

Sydney grabbed the phone from Garrett.

SYDNEY: What's wrong?

CALLIE: I … I need a place to crash.

SYDNEY: I'll wait downstairs for you.

She hung up the phone when she heard Callie's phone disconnect.

GARRETT: So?

SYDNEY: I don't know yet, but from the way she sounded, it's bad.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Callie arrived five minutes later. Sydney led her into the
living room and Callie told her the entire story.

CALLIE: The two men I never thought would betray me have. My father,
for not telling me the truth about my grandfather, and Jimmy…

The tears were making it harder for her to speak.

CALLIE: How could he keep this from me for so long?

SYDNEY: I don't know what to say.

CALLIE: It's like our whole relationship was enveloped by this lie.

SYDNEY: Do you have any idea what you're going to do?

Callie wiped the tears from her eyes.

CALLIE: I told Jimmy I wanted him out of the house.

SYDNEY: Callie you didn't!

CALLIE: I had to Syd. I just … I'm so angry. … And then there's the
whole part about Barek being my uncle.

SYDNEY: That's the part that confuses me. Nowhere in the written Walker
family history does it say that your grandfather had another son.

Callie looked at her best friend strangely.

CALLIE: You've read the Walker family history?

SYDNEY: I've read the histories of all the first families of Swans
Crossing. Mother wanted to make sure that I knew about all of them in
case a reporter ever asked me about them.

CALLIE: You really led a sheltered life didn't you?

SYDNEY: Yes I did.

	Callie smiled.

CALLIE: Thank you Sydney.

	Sydney looked confused.

SYDNEY: For what?

CALLIE: For making me forget about what's going on, even for a minute.

SYDNEY: Hey, sisters forever.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Callie didn't make it to her classes. She and Sydney didn't fall
asleep until about six a.m. Around eleven, Callie woke up and called
her in-laws.

JOHN: Clayton residence.

CALLIE: Hey Dad. I'll be by to pick up AJ in about an hour.

JOHN: You and Jimmy must have gotten your wires crossed. He picked up
the little guy a couple of hours ago.

CALLIE: Oh.

She realized that Jimmy wanted to spend as much time with him
before he…

JOHN: Is everything okay Callie? Jimmy was kind of acting funny.

CALLIE: You'll have to ask your son that one. Bye Dad.

She hung up and then dialed the shop.

JIMMY: Tool n' Die.

CALLIE: It's me.

JIMMY: Hey. … I hope you don't mind, but I picked up AJ and brought him
here.

CALLIE: I know I talked to your Dad.

JIMMY: Callie, I'm so…

CALLIE: Look Jimmy, I've got a few things I need to do today. I'll
pick the baby up later, okay?

JIMMY: We need to talk Callie.

CALLIE: I can't right now Jimmy. I have a lot going through my head
right now and I need to sort it out. Kiss my baby for me. … Bye Jimmy.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

After Callie showered, she put the jeans and t-shirt she had worn
when she left her house, pulled her hair up in a ponytail and blew off
wearing make-up. She decided it was time to confront to Barek.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Barek was in the middle of giving a lecture when Callie burst
into the auditorium. Once her saw the look on her face, there was only
one thing to say.

BAREK: Class dismissed.

	The class looked perplexed.

STUDENT: What about the test on Tuesday?

BAREK: Let's just postpone that until Thursday. Okay people? Now get
on out of here.

The students started to slowly leave. Barek gathered his notes
and walked to Callie.

BAREK: Let's go to my office.

Callie didn't say a word. She just followed him. When they got
to his office, Barek sat behind his desk. Callie sat across from him.
Her expression showed her anger and hatred for him.

BAREK: Dare I ask what's up?

CALLIE: Why is it you always seem to completely fuck up my life?

	He replied sarcastically.

BAREK: What'd I do this time?

	Callie's eyes never left his.

CALLIE: Explain to me how it is that you're my uncle.

BAREK: Oh … that.

CALLIE: Start talking.

Callie's stare never wavered. Barek began to tell her about
how he came into existence.

BAREK: When your dad was about thirteen, I guess, your grandmother
died.

CALLIE: I know that.

Barek gave her a stern look.

BAREK: Do you want to know the story or not?

Callie just sat back and waited for him to continue.

BAREK: Your grandfather fell into such a depression that he checked
into a hospital. That's where he met my mother.

CALLIE: She was a nurse?

BAREK: She was a patient.

CALLIE: Figures.

BAREK: Her parents had institutionalized her because they said she had
an unhealthy relationship with the guy she was seeing. She was sixteen
and they caught her in bed with her boyfriend having sex. Anyway, the
old man fell madly in love with her the moment he saw her. She looked
a lot like his dead wife.

CALLIE: He was like in his thirties.

BAREK: Yep.

Barek paused for a few moments and collected his thoughts.

BAREK: To make a long story, not as long, he got my mom pregnant, her
parents made her marry the boyfriend because everybody assumed I was his
because she didn't tell anybody about your grandfather. I grew up
thinking that the man who raised me was my father. When I was fifteen,
Mom got sick and told me about my real dad. They had been writing to
each other the entire time. He'd even been sending me money. Mom had
put it in a trust account. Anyway, my mom died and he tried to get
custody of me, but DNA testing wasn't done then and the blood tests were
inconclusive.

As angry as she was at him, Callie felt sorry for Barek. She
knew what it was like to lose a parent. Hell, she'd lost her mother
twice.

BAREK: I focused on my studies and graduated early. Then I went looking
for my father.

CALLIE: And you found him.

BAREK: Actually he found me. He was seriously grieving my mom and he
was beginning to lose his mind. But he did introduce me to the right
people.

CALLIE: The right people?

BAREK: CIA, FBI. That's when I became an operative. I was seventeen.

CALLIE: You were a kid.

BAREK: Yeah … well…

CALLIE: Is that why you felt it necessary to arm a fourteen year old
boy?

BAREK: You remember that too, huh?

	Callie abruptly stood up.

CALLIE: I think I've heard enough for today.

She walked towards the door, then turned around.

CALLIE: Don't expect me in class unless there's a test.

	She exited his office.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Callie was driving around. She was avoiding going to the sub,
but she knew she needed to confront her father. After about an hour,
she pulled up to the dock and got out of her car. Callie climbed the
ladder, opened the hatch and descended into the sub.

CALLIE: Dad, are you here?

	Elia walked through the doorway.

ELIA: What a wonderful…

CALLIE: Not now Dad!

ELIA: Excuse me?

CALLIE: You knew that your father was alive … You knew Barek is your
brother … You knew about Jimmy's involvement in the shootout…

ELIA: We were trying to protect you.

CALLIE: By lying to me?! … Have I ever been that fragile that I've
needed to be protected?

ELIA: My father had turned into a monster. I was afraid that he would
go after you. … You were all I had left.

CALLIE: Don't rationalize this! My life is currently falling apart
because of this. Please do not tell me it was for my own good!

Tears filled her eyes and he reached to embrace her, but she
stepped back. Her voice was soft.

CALLIE: There are three men in my life that mean everything to me.
I've been betrayed by two of them.

ELIA: Callie, betrayal was not the intention.

CALLIE: Maybe not … but it is the result. … I've gotta go.

She headed to the ladder and began to climb.

ELIA: Callie…

CALLIE: Goodbye Dad.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Around four o'clock, Callie decided to stop by the Tool n' Die
to pick up her son. When she got there she saw Alex pulling out of the
parking lot. She walked into the shop and saw AJ sitting on the
workbench and Jimmy showing him different tools. She hung back and
listened to what he was telling their son.

JIMMY: Maybe I should buy you a set of tools for up here. That way,
when you're here with me, you can help me out. Does that sound like a
good idea?

	AJ smiled and laughed.

JIMMY: Daddy really screwed up. You see, at first, I just wanted to
protect Mommy … but as time passed, I think I was only protecting
myself.

For about the hundredth time that day, Callie began to cry.

JIMMY: Mommy's really mad at your daddy right now. And it's my own
fault, nobody else's. Not your grandpa's … not even Barek's. It was my
decision not to tell her … God, thinking back, I should have told her
what was going on the day Barek gave me that damn … I mean darn gun.

AJ pouted out his bottom lip.

JIMMY: Hey, don't you worry. We'll get through this. It's just gonna
take some time.

	AJ spotted Callie.

AJ: Mama!

Jimmy turned around to see his wife. His heart was pounding.

JIMMY: Hey.

CALLIE: Training a new mechanic?

JIMMY: Something like that. … Callie…

Callie raised her hand to stop his next word.

CALLIE: Jimmy, I've had a really long day. I just came by to pick up
AJ and take him home.

	Jimmy's face saddened.

JIMMY: Oh … okay. … Well his bag is upstairs. I'll go get it.

	She stopped him.

CALLIE: No, I'll go get it. You go put the baby in the car.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

AJ had fallen asleep in the car on the way home. Callie carried
both him and his bag into the house. She noticed Codi and David sitting
on the couch "studying". She stopped in to let them know she was home.

CALLIE: Hey guys.

	Codi and David separated.

CODI: Oh hey Cal.

CALLIE: I'm gonna go put AJ down and then go lie down. Could you watch
him for the rest of the night?

CODI: Sure. … Is everything okay? You look…

CALLIE: Tomorrow, okay.

Callie carried AJ upstairs and put him to bed. Then she went
into her and Jimmy's room, lay on their bed and began to cry … again.
