Codi Madison Walker sat outside the principal's office at Swans
Crossing High School. All of the new students were required to meet with
him before attending classes.
CODI: This is so lame.
DAVID: You're telling me. But hey, at least we're not in class.
CODI: Okay, so that's a plus. I'm Codi Madison.
DAVID: David Ellis.
The principal's secretary motioned to Codi.
DORIS: Miss Walker, Mr. Wilke will see you now.
Codi picked up her purse.
DAVID: I thought you said your name was Madison?
CODI: Long story.
She walked into the principal's office. David smirked.
DAVID: One that I am definitely looking forward to hearing.

Callie and Sydney were in the living room of the Walker estate.
SYDNEY: How are things going with Codi?
CALLIE: Don't say anything to anyone, but I was kind of hoping she'd go
live with Dad.
SYDNEY: She doesn't want to live with your dad?
CALLIE: It's not my father. It's the sub. She's claustrophobic.
SYDNEY: Ah, so no kinky sex in the last couple of weeks huh?
CALLIE: Not a bit. It's not like we're excessively loud or anything…
SYDNEY: Oh, of course not.
Callie swatted at her best friend.
CALLIE: Jimmy's been self conscious about it. I don't know. Maybe now
that she's in school she'll make friends and, I don't know, go to slumber
parties.
SYDNEY: Um, Callie, you do remember what made our slumber parties so
great, don't you?
CALLIE: Oh shit!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
By fifth period Codi was bored out of her mind. Everything the
teacher had droned on about, she had learned three years before. She
couldn't believe that she actually missed Brookhaven. At least there she
was challenged. Her boredom was interrupted by a knock on the classroom
door.
MISS LINDSAY: May I help you?
DAVID: Yeah, Mr. Wilke needs to see Codi Walker.
MISS LINDSAY: Let me see the pass.
David took a piece of paper from his back pocket and handed it
to the teacher.
MISS LINDSAY: Codi, please go with this young man.
Codi grabbed her stuff and headed out the door. Barely hearing
Miss Lindsay tell her to read chapter one.
CODI: So, what does the Wilk-man want?
DAVID: Him, nothing. I'm the one that rescued you.
CODI: Not that I'm not eternally grateful, but what pass did you show
her?
DAVID: One of these.
David pulled out a thick pad of signed passes from his jacket's
inside pocket.
CODI: And how did you acquire those?
DAVID: Wilke stepped out of his office for a few minutes and I found
stacks of these in his bottom file cabinet drawer. Can you believe it
wasn't even locked?
CODI: So what are we waiting for? Lets' get out of here.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Callie walked through the door of the Tool n Die carrying AJ.
Luke was standing at the workbench putting a motor back together.
LUKE: Hey Callie.
CALLIE: Hi. Why aren't you in school?
LUKE: I have work/study.
CALLIE: Oh. So, is here's Jimmy?
LUKE: Upstairs taking a nap.
CALLIE: How very Barek of him.
BAREK: Did I hear my name mentioned?
CALLIE: Oh my God! What the hell are you doing here?
BAREK: Nice to see you too.
Callie just stared at him waiting for his answer.
BAREK: I've been asked by SCU to teach a couple of classes.
CALLIE: Oh.
BAREK: So who's this little guy?
CALLIE: My son.
BAREK: Your son? So you and Jimmy…
CALLIE: Have been married for two years.
BAREK: Wow! Things sure have a way of changing.
CALLIE: Are you still working for the government?
BAREK: Retired.
CALLIE: Aren't you a little young to be retired?
BAREK: The job has a way of aging you … quickly.
Jimmy came down the stairs into the garage. The only person he
noticed was his beautiful wife. He walked directly over to her and
kissed her sweetly.
JIMMY: Hey baby.
CALLIE: Honey, look who's here.
JIMMY: Barek. It's been a long time man.
BAREK: Too long young James. Too long. So you're still working here I
see.
JIMMY: Actually, I own it.
BAREK: Impressed.
Callie rolled her eyes.
CALLIE: Okay, there's just too much testosterone in the room. I just
stopped by to tell you that we're having dinner with my dad tonight.
JIMMY: Sounds good. Barek, would you like to join us?
Callie closed her eyes not believing that her husband invited
that man to dinner.
BAREK: Sounds good. It will be nice to see the Captain again.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Codi and David pulled the mini bike over on the side of the road
by the lake.
CODI: Where did you get this dinosaur?
DAVID: It belongs to my cousin's husband.
Codi got off the bike and walked around by the lake.
CODI: This is so much better then sitting in school being bored to
death.
David decided to make a bold move and put his arms around her
waist. Codi didn't move. For the first time since her move, she felt
safe.
DAVID: So why'd you tell me your name was Madison when Wilke's secretary
called you Walker?
CODI: How many hours ya got?
She began to tell him the long, drawn out story of her life.
CODI: And then when Leda died, I found out that she knew where my
father was all along. Do you know that I didn't even know I had a
sister? Anyway, when she came to pick me up from boarding school, I
found out that Madison was actually my middle name.
DAVID: Whoa.
His arms tightened around her.
CODI: This feels nice. … Why do I trust you?
DAVID: I know what you mean. I feel it too.
She turned around to face him. She slipped her arms around his
neck and he leaned down and kissed her. They were so into the kiss,
they didn't notice a car pull up.
Callie had needed to clear her head. Why the hell had Barek
decided to show up now that her life was going great? She was about to
get AJ out of the car when she noticed her little sister and Sydney's
cousin in a heated lip lock when they should have been in school.
CALLIE: Aren't you two supposed to be in school?
Codi and David broke apart.
CODI: You scared the crap out of me.
CALLIE: You didn't answer my question. Why aren't you in school?
CODI: I got bored.
CALLIE: Codi… Oh never mind. Look, we're having dinner with Dad at the
Swan Club at seven.
Callie got back in her car and drove off.
DAVID: Callie's your sister?
CODI: Yeah. You know her?
David brushed her hair out of her eyes.
DAVID: She's my cousin's best friend.
CODI: Small world.
DAVID: Yeah.
They began to kiss again.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Callie was sitting at her vanity putting her make-up on when
there was a knock on the door.
CALLIE: Come in.
Codi walked in slowly.
CODI: I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about skipping out today.
Callie laughed.
CALLIE: You're just sorry you got caught.
CODI: True. Are you going to tell Dad?
CALLIE: No. Just don't make a habit of it. Okay?
CODI: So, what do you think of David Ellis?
CALLIE: He's cute. When did the two of you meet?
Codi looked down at her feet.
CODI: This morning.
CALLIE: From what I saw, you're movin' kind of fast.
CODI: I can't explain it. When I was with him, I felt…
CALLIE: Content? … Safe?
CODI: How'd you know?
CALLIE: That's what I felt the first time I was alone with Jimmy. Of
course it took a long, long time for either of us to admit it.
CODI: How old were you when you met Jimmy?
CALLIE: Fourteen. He's the only man I've ever loved. In fact most of
us are still dating or married our high school sweethearts.
A slight smile grew on Codi's lips.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Barek and Elia were completely engrossed with their conversation
each one out doing the other with their tales of adventure. Codi found
it kind of cool. By just listening, she was learning about her father
and his work. Barek smiled at Codi.
BAREK: We must be boring.
CODI: Actually, I find this fascinating. It sure is a lot more
interesting then what they're teaching at school.
ELIA: You did not enjoy your first day?
Callie almost choked on her salad.
JIMMY: Are you okay?
CALLIE: Fine.
CODI: It's just that I am so far ahead of everybody else.
ELIA: How far ahead?
CODI: Like three years.
JIMMY: Maybe you can test out. Skip a few grades.
CODI: I tried to talk to the principal about that, but he said that he
didn't believe it. People should be with their own age group.
CALLIE: I'll talk to him.
BAREK: I pity him. Codi, once your sister has her mind set on
something, she's like a pit bull. She won't let it go.
Callie glared at Barek.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Callie came out of her bathroom wearing Jimmy's black Harley
Davidson t-shirt. Jimmy grinned.
JIMMY: Any particular reason you're wearing my shirt?
Callie looked at him devilishly. Sister in the house or not,
she was having sex with her husband.
CALLIE: Cuz I know you can't resist me when I wear it.
JIMMY: Oh I think I can.
CALLIE: Sounds like a challenge.
She climbed up on their king size bed and straddled his hips.
CALLIE: You are in so much trouble Clayton.
Jimmy noticed that she wasn't wearing any underwear.
JIMMY: What'd I do?
CALLIE: Because of you I had to spend an entire evening listening to
Barek's 'great adventures'.
JIMMY: You still hate him huh?
CALLIE: I can't help it. I realize that everything he did was for
national security, but he almost got you killed.
He pulled her down on top of him and hugged her tightly.
JIMMY: Baby, that was just as much my fault as it was his.
CALLIE: I know that. … But I can't hate you.
She sat back up and tears welled up in her eyes.
CALLIE: The night you followed Barek here … and then the shootout …
there were so many bodies and so much blood.
Callie was shaking as the memory flooded her mind.
JIMMY: That was almost six years ago.
She ran her fingers over the scar on his left bicep.
CALLIE: A few inches to the right and…
He pulled her down and kissed her.
JIMMY: It didn't happen.
CALLIE: But it could have.
JIMMY: It didn't.
She sat back up again. His hands began to wander under the
t-shirt.
JIMMY: Baby, let's forget about the past. Be with me here, in the
present. We're in our bed, in our room, in our home. And right now,
more than anything, I want to make love to you.
He pulled her down and started kissing her neck. Then he rolled
her on to her back and continued to kiss down her body. He stopped
before he gave her the pleasure she so desperately wanted.
CALLIE: God, don't stop.
He looked at her and grinned.
JIMMY: I should really teach you a lesson.
Callie was drunk with desire.
CALLIE: Huh?
JIMMY: What's it gonna take to keep you out of my clothes?
She was writhing on the bed. Her body was begging for him to
finish what he had started. He knew she loved it when he teased her.
So he'd touch her and stop. After what seemed like an eternity, Callie
couldn't take it any more.
CALLIE: Damn it Jimmy. Stop playing and Fuck me!
Jimmy laughed.
JIMMY: Anything for you Walker Woman.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Codi was sitting on the floor with her back against the foot of
her bed. She had MTV on the television and David on the phone.
CODI: She was completely cool about it. She just told me not to make
a habit of it.
DAVID: I guess if we did this everyday, they'd get a little suspicious.
CODI: Probably. Callie's going up to school tomorrow to talk to Wilke
about me taking an advanced placement test.
DAVID: So you're a brain huh?
CODI: Not really. It's just that my old school was so far beyond where
SCH is. The stuff we did today I learned in middle school.
DAVID: Well, I'm glad I was able to give you a break.
CODI: I really had fun today.
DAVID: I did too.
CODI: I want you to know, I usually don't move that fast with a guy.
DAVID: Me either … with girls that is.
Isabelle picked up her extension.
ISABELLE: David, Mom said to get off the phone and go to bed.
DAVID: In a minute!
He snapped
CODI: I guess you gotta go huh?
DAVID: I guess so. Meet me in front of school tomorrow, okay?
CODI: I'll be there. … David.
DAVID: Yeah.
CODI: Thanks for making my first day of school so incredible.
DAVID: Your welcome.
Sanna opened his bedroom door.
SANNA: David, get off the phone!
DAVID: I'll see you in the morning.
CODI: Okay.
DAVID: Goodnight Codi.
CODI: Night David.
Codi hung the phone up and just stared off into space.
CODI: First day in a new school and you've already got the hottest new
guy. Not bad Madison, not bad at all.
