Maddeleine Clayton was holding her grandson. For the past few
days he was eating and drinking very little. On this day he was flat
out refusing to eat or drink anything at all. He was also acting
extremely lethargic and had a fever. Callie came running through the
door.

CALLIE: How's he doing?

MADDELEINE: He still won't eat or drink anything.

Callie took AJ from her mother-in-law.

CALLIE: What's wrong little man? … How long has he been running fever?

MADDELEINE: About half an hour. Poor thing, I had to force Tylenol
down him.

Callie handed her son back to Maddie and called his doctor.

CALLIE: Great. She's out of town.

MADDELEINE: Why don't you call Mary and see whom she recommends.

CALLIE: That's a good idea.

Callie dialed Mary Ellis' office number.

MADDELEINE: What'd she say?

CALLIE: She said to bring him up to her office and she'd check him out.

MADDELEINE: Do you want me to go with you?

	Callie shook her head.

CALLIE: No, … but could you call Jimmy? Tell him to meet me at Dr.
Ellis' office as soon as he can.

MADDELEINE: Sure sweetie.

CALLIE: I'll call you when I find out what's going on.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When Jimmy arrived at the doctor's office, Callie was holding a
sleeping AJ.

JIMMY: What's going on? How is he?

Callie brushed her hand over his little head.

CALLIE: His throat and ears are clear. She took some blood and put a
rush on the lab work. She did say that he's a little dehydrated.

Mary came through the door and sat behind her desk.

MARY: Here's where we are. The prelims came back negative, but I am
concerned with the dehydration. So, what I'm going to do is admit him
and start him on an I.V.

CALLIE: So you have no idea why he won't eat or drink?

	Mary shook her head.

MARY: Not yet, but I will. We're going to have to run some more tests.

JIMMY: Do what you have to do Doc. Just get our son will.

MARY: I'll do everything I can, Jimmy.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Callie sat by the metal crib in her son's hospital room. She
watched as the fluid entered the I.V. shunt that was in his small left
hand. To ensure that he wouldn't pull it out, there was a splint and
bandage around it. As Jimmy talked on the phone, he heard Callie
speaking to their son.

CALLIE: Hey little man, Mommy and Daddy love you so much.

	Jimmy hung up the phone.

JIMMY: Codi's gonna stay with Katie tonight.

Callie nodded her head. Tears began to pour from her eyes.

JIMMY: He'll get over this Callie.

CALLIE: We don't know that Jimmy. He's not eating, he's not drinking
and he's got a fever. … This is all my fault.

JIMMY: This is not your fault.

CALLIE: Yes it is. I've been so wrapped up in myself that I didn't
notice that my son was getting sick.

JIMMY: Then it's just as much my fault. All I've been thinking about
is you.

	They stared at each other.

CALLIE: I'm gonna go get so air. I'll be back in about ten minutes.

Callie left the room. She wandered around outside for a few
minutes and then went to get a soda. She realized that she didn't have
any money and went back to AJ's room to get her wallet. That's when she
saw Jimmy. He was sitting beside the crib holding his son's hand and
crying. She went over to him, sat in his lap and put her head on his
shoulder. He put his free hand around her waist.

CALLIE: I'm sorry.

A tear slipped down her cheek.

JIMMY: What are you apologizing for?

CALLIE: Everything that's gone on in the past month seems so trivial
now. I know that everything that happened wasn't your fault. Don't get
me wrong, you should have told me, but I guess I understand why you
didn't. … I love you Jimmy and I love AJ. I want my family back.

JIMMY: I love you too baby. I swear that's the only thing that have
kept from you … or ever will. You and this little boy are my life.
I'll never do anything to jeopardize that ever again.

	Callie stroked his face.

CALLIE: I know you won't.

She leaned down, kissed him sweetly and got up off of his lap.

CALLIE: I'm gonna go get something to drink. Want anything?

JIMMY: I don't need anything.

Callie grabbed her wallet from her purse and headed out of the
room.

JIMMY: But you.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It was three a.m. Jimmy was sitting on the couch in AJ's room
reading a book and watching the baby as he slept. When his fever broke
a few hours before, Callie had lain on the couch and fallen asleep with
her head in Jimmy's lap. That's when something amazing happened.

AJ: Daddy.

Jimmy looked up to see his son standing in the crib and holding
his arms out to him. Jimmy shook Callie awake.

JIMMY: Callie … Honey … wake up.

	Callie opened her eyes.

CALLIE: I'm up. What is it?

	Jimmy pointed to their son.

JIMMY: Look.

AJ: Mama!

Callie stood up and went over to her baby while Jimmy called
for the nurse.

CALLIE: Hey little man. Are you feeling better?

AJ: Me wan boble.

Callie began to cry. Her child wanted a bottle. It was music
to her ears.

CALLIE: Sure baby, as soon as they come check you out, okay.

JIMMY: So I take it you're feeling better?

AJ: Daddy up!

Jimmy went to the side of the crib and lowered it. He carefully
lifted AJ out making sure not to pull out the I.V.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

	Mary was checking AJ over.

MARY: He's fine. All the tests came back negative and he's completely
re-hydrated. What ever it was must have just run its course.

CALLIE: So we can take him home?

MARY: Just let me do the paper work and he should be out of here in an
hour.

JIMMY: Thank you Dr. Ellis, for everything.

He put his arm around Callie.

MARY: I really can't take the credit, but you are very welcome.

She walked towards the door, and then turned back to them.

MARY: I'm glad to see the two of you have worked through whatever was
going on. Children seem to sense discord between their parents.

Mary walked out of the room.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Jimmy and Callie had called the Claytons to tell them that AJ
was better and they would be taking him home as soon as he was
discharged. Maddie insisted that they come to their house for lunch.
Reluctantly they agreed. When they got there, they noticed a few cars
that weren't normally there. They walked into the house and were
greeted by not only their family, but also a few of their friends.

JIMMY: Mom, he was just in the hospital over night.

MADDELEINE: I know that, but I'm just so relieved that he's all right.
Begrudge your mother a little happiness. Would you, please?

Callie came over to Jimmy and put her arms around him. Sydney
smiled.

SYDNEY: So I guess you worked things out?

CALLIE: Not really, I just realized that there are more important
things than the past.

SYDNEY: Good.

AJ ran up to his parents and Sydney picked him up. She
whispered in his ear.

SYDNEY: Nice work kiddo.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

After Callie and Jimmy laid AJ down in his bed, they went into
their bedroom. Callie stretched and yawned.

CALLIE: I need a shower.

JIMMY: I feel pretty gross myself.

	Callie smiled.

CALLIE: You can go first if you want to.

Jimmy put his arms around her.

JIMMY: Or we could just take one together.

They kissed. It was sweet and gentle.

CALLIE: As great as that sounds, one of us should be able to hear if
AJ wakes up.

	He kissed her again.

JIMMY: Have I ever told you what a great mom you are?

CALLIE: Not in the last, oh … uh, month.

JIMMY: Go get a shower. I'll keep an eye on the little guy.

CALLIE: I do love you Clayton.

JIMMY: Love you too Walker Woman.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

After Jimmy finished his shower, he came out of the bathroom to
find his wife lying on their bed in his Harley t-shirt. He grinned.

JIMMY: Mine!

CALLIE: I dare you to try and take it off of me.

JIMMY: That's a dare I'll take.

Jimmy climbed onto their bed and over to Callie. He wasted no
time in grabbing the bottom of the shirt and pulling it off of her.

CALLIE: Oh my! You're so forceful.

Jimmy pressed his lips firmly against hers. She opened her lips
and let his tongue invade her mouth. Their bodies pressed tightly
against each other. Callie pulled away from the kiss breathless.

CALLIE: I can't seem to get close enough to you.

JIMMY: Let me see if I can fix that.

He let go of her completely and pulled his boxers off, kissed
her and then entered her.

CALLIE: Ohh … Oh God!

	They didn't move at all.

JIMMY: It feels so good to be home.

They began to move together slowly. It had been so long. The
last time they made love was the night Callie remembered everything.
But none of that mattered. They made love for hours. Afterwards they
slept completely wrapped around each other … until they heard the
melodious voice of their son.

AJ: Mama! Me hungee!
