Everybody Wants To Rule the World Chapter Eleven Written By: LadySwan "Garrett!" Sydney cries happily, as she runs into his arms. "What are you doing here?" she asks. Garrett places his suitcase down on the floor next to Sydney. "What do you think?" he tells her. Sydney raises an eyebrow. "Got kicked out of school again?" "Again?" He frowned, but then quickly smiled again. He shrugged. "France isn't for me, I like it here in Swans Crossing." Garrett insists. Sydney shrugs. "Ok, just try telling your dad that." Garrett's face dimmers. "Actually the reason I came back is to see my mom." "But her condition wasn't so bad that you had to leave school." Sydney argued. "Yeah well. It wasn't planned that way. I was in a rush to go home to see my mom, and then the head master told me if I walked out on him I'd get kicked out of school. I was too worried about my mom to care." "Wow." Sydney smiled wistfully. "That's really sweet. I just hope your dad buys that story." She looks at Garrett's suitcase. "Did you just arrive?" "Yeah." "So, who else have you seen so far?" she asks. "No one. I wanted you to be the first person I saw in Swans Crossing." he tells her, giving her a half-smile. Sydney blushes. "No one at all? Not even your family?" Garrett shook his head. "Not yet. I really want to see how my mom is doing, but I'm not in a hurry to see dad." "So, I guess that means you haven't seen Mila yet, have you?" she asks carefully. "No." "Won't that be kind of hard for you? I mean, even through your letters, it seemed like your still hurt over the break-up." Sydney says, a serious look on her face. "It will be hard to see her, but I'm totally over her now." Garrett assures Sydney. "Actually, I was kind of hoping... maybe I could find love somewhere else..." he trails off, taking Sydney's hand. "Garrett... there's something I haven't told you, in my letters." she told him, looking down on the ground. She couldn't find any other way to break the news any easier to him. "What is it?" he asks in concern. "Garrett, I have a boyfriend." Sydney says biting her lip, looking up at him. : : : : : : : : Jimmy was just as distracted as Saja was at baseball practice, but tried his best to focus at times. He was still thinking about last night, with Callie. The events were still fresh in his mind, and he couldn't seem to shake them... It was after dinner time when Jimmy had rode over to the docks to see Callie. She was happy to see him as always. They had hung out by the edge of the pier, their legs dangling above the water. It was very dark, and the only light was the full moon above shining brightly below and the twinkle of the stars. At first, they were in silence. Still reeling in from the previous days events. Jimmy knew she was still in shock from all that had happened, but she was just being too quiet. "What's wrong?" he had asked. Callie glanced at him. "What do you mean?" "You've been way too quiet, Walker Woman. I know when something's up with you." Callie smiled faintly. "It's nothing really." "Is it about what happened yesterday?" "Kinda, but not really." Callie paused. "My dad got really worried about me. He wanted us to move away from Swans Crossing." "What?" Jimmy asked in shock, swiftly turning to face Callie. "You can't leave me, Callie!" "I know. That's what I told him. And he finally agreed to let us remain here." She paused. "And that's what I was thinking about. I've spent my whole life, moving from place to place, around the world, and I've only been here in Swans Crossing for a few months, yet this place seems more to me like home than anywhere else I've been." Callie and Jimmy shared a meaningful look. "I've always been tough, never having to depend much on anyone, but here, I'm always looking forward to seeing my friends, to be with you." "I know," Jimmy replied. "It's the same with me. I can't picture my life without you." Jimmy had wrapped his arms around Callie and kissed her on her forehead. "I love you, Walker Woman." "I love you too, Clayton." It had been a wonderful night for the two of them, and Jimmy just wanted to get out of practice so that he could meet up with Callie again. Jimmy got out of the dugout and practiced swinging for his turn that was coming up. He sighed. The sooner practice was done, the better. : : : : : : : : Garrett stares at Sydney dumbfounded. "Y- you- you're dating someone?" Sydney nods uneasily. "Yeah." Garrett quickly tries to cover up his embarrassment. "Oh well, you know. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular." he said shrugging. He looks away, but then turns back. "You never told me." he said with hurt in his voice. Sydney bites her lip. "I was going to, but you were so hurt over Mila breaking up with you, and I wanted to help you get over the pain and completely forgot to tell you." Sydney explained. "Oh. So, who is he?" Garrett asked. "Anyone I know?" he asked, trying to keep his voice steady. He had no idea what was happening to him at this moment, but he had to keep cool. "Alex Hunter. You remember, he's a year ahead of us." Sydney told him. "He was-" "Yeah, I remember him." Garrett's brow furrowed. "You're seeing him? He's a preppie!" "Hey! He is not! He's just smart, that's all. He's really sweet and kind deep inside. Even thoughtful and romantic." Sydney said defensively. "Yeah, sure. It's just, you two seem so different." Sydney shrugs. "Well, I guess that's the thing that helps make our relationship work, I guess. He's made me see a whole new side of myself." Garrett just nodded, too afraid to speak. Suddenly, new emotions were coming over him and he didn't know what to do. After moments of silence, Garrett went and picked up his bags. "Well, I guess I'd better get back to the house and tell my dad I'm back." "Want me to go with you?" Sydney offered. Garrett smiled faintly. "Sure. Thanks." At least he could still be friends with her. "I guess this will be a less interesting day coming home than it was before. Do you remember that day we both came back for the summer?" He laughed. Sydney made a face and swatted him playfully. "Very funny. I didn't like that day much." They made jokes all the way to the Booth house. Suddenly, they both began to feel better than they had been a couple of minutes ago. After Garrett had put his suitcases in his room, they decided to head over to the Soda Shop. They both wanted to see their friends, and Garrett was dying for a cherry soda ever since he had gone to France. As soon as Garrett and Sydney entered the Soda Shop, the noise lowered. Everyone was surprised to see Garrett, and even more surprised to see him with Sydney! Garrett's friends came over to welcome him, and Sydney slipped away and sat down by the bar next to Callie. She was sitting alone because she was waiting for Jimmy's baseball practice to finish. Jazz came over to the two girls. "You know, it's rare that this room ever falls silent, and it's strange but it's happened twice today!" "Really, what was the first time?" Sydney asked, taking a sip out of Callie's drink. Jazz filled in the two girls about the showdown between Amanda and Nancy. Their eyes widened when they heard what Nancy did. "I didn't think Nancy had it in her." Callie said. "She's becoming more and more the bitch I used to be," Sydney mused. She looked at the two. "I must be really out of the loop lately. I haven't even heard about what's been happening to most of my friends lately!" Callie nudged her playfully. "That's because you've been too busy with Alex." She looked in the direction of Garrett, where he was surrounded by all of his friends, but kept on sneaking glances towards them. "And by the looks of it, Mr. Booth as well." Sydney blushed and nudged Callie back. "Oh please. Garrett and I are just friends!" She was blushing because she remembered what she had been thinking about earlier. Garrett then came over to the three ladies. "Hey!" he said to Callie and Jazz. "Hey welcome back, Garrett! Can I get you anything?" "A cherry soda, please." Garrett said gratefully, and he and Sydney burst out laughing. Callie and Jazz just stared at them. "Ok... one cherry soda coming up!" And then she disappeared, heading for the back room to get it. "So... Garrett, how was France?" Callie asked. "Please," Garrett muttered. "Simply put, I really wanted to come back." He looked around the Soda Shop. "So where's Jimmy?" "They're at baseball practice." Callie informed him. Garrett shot Sydney a wry look. "Gee, I should have been doing that too, if it hadn't been for...." he trailed off. Sydney raised up her hands in defense. "Hey that wasn't completely my fault! And you still would have been in France anyway!" Callie bit her lip, trying to stop herself from laughing. It was weird watching Sydney and Garrett act as friends. It was like hell had frozen over. Just then, Mila and Dick Litley entered the room. Callie was staring in that direction, so Sydney and Garrett stopped their teasing and looked in the direction she was looking, At that very moment, Mila saw Sydney and Garrett looking at her. She uncomfortably looked away, and dragged Dick to the other side of the room. Sydney bit her lip and looked over to Garrett who was still watching her. Garrett's gaze then drifted to Sydney. He forced a smile and shrugged. : : : : : : : : Nancy sat in the middle of her bed, slouching, which was not a usual Nancy thing. This meant that things were going bad. It had only been more or less three hours since the incident with Amanda in the Soda Shop. But Nancy had been worrying about it non-stop ever since. Who knew what Amanda was going to do with her? Embarrass her in front of the whole school? Kick her out of the cheerleading squad? Set her up? There was absolutely no stopping Amanda when she wanted something, and Nancy knew it. "Why did I have to spill the float on her, why? She's going to ruin my life!" Nancy rolled around in her bed and let herself fall to the floor. "Life isn't worth living anymore." This was bad, this was very bad. : : : : : : : : Garrett entered his house, aware that his family was home. After they had seen Mila at the Soda Shop, Sydney did her best to help him forget about Mila. Garrett smiled. She did a great job. After awhile, he could only concentrate on her! But now that Sydney wasn't here with him, Garrett was nervous all over. His dad would freak at him when he'd find out that he was kicked out. He could hear his dad in his office, and Garrett didn't know what to say just yet, so he decided to head up the stairs. At that very moment, Glory came down the stairs. When she saw her older brother her eyes opened wide. "Garrett! You're back!" she happily screamed, and raced down the stairs to hug him. Garrett hugged her back, glad that at least she was happy to see him. "When did you get in?" Glory asked him. "About an hour ago. No one was home so I went over to the Soda Shop." "We were all at the hospital." Glory's tone mellowed. "Did you get my letter?" she asked. "Yeah. That's why I came back." Glory smiled and hugged him again. "I'm glad you're back." "Me too." They began to walk towards the living room. "So how long will you be back?" Glory asked. Garrett hesitated for a moment. "Well, um...." he stalled deciding whether to lie or to tell them the truth outright about his expulsion. "Garrett." Grant Booth's voice boomed from behind them. "May I see you in my office?" he asked, in an unreadable voice. Garrett felt the sweat trickle down the side of his forehead. "Yes sir." he almost whispered, getting up from the couch to his dad's office. Garrett had always heard his father's voice in that manner, and he was not happy. Had he found out already that he had been kicked out? Or was his dad just unhappy about his mom? Grant Booth was sitting in his roller chair, facing towards the window, his back to Garrett. Garrett sat in the chair nearest him, hating the situation. "So... you came back." "Yeah. I came to see how mom was doing." "I wish you had told me before you had come here." "I didn't have the time." Garrett explained, getting frustrated. "As soon as I read Glory's letter I rushed here. I didn't-" "You didn't think!" Grant yelled, turning to face Garrett. Garrett was shocked by his change in tone, but held his ground with his chin held high as always. He wasn't the wrong one, no matter what his dad would say. Grant practically threw down the paper he held in his hand on the desk. "Explain to me why you had to get expelled!" Garrett stared at the letter from his head master at Une Ecole Avec Murs. So he had sent a letter to his dad. I wonder what exactly he said there, Garrett mused to himself. Maybe he exaggerated the truth. Garrett stared back at his dad and looked him straight in the eye. "I wanted to come back to see how mom was doing." "The head master says-" Garrett stood up angrily from his chair. "The head master blew everything completely out of proportion! He threw me out because he says I had to wait before I could leave-" "It's for safety, Garrett!" "But my mom's safety is more important to me than my own!" Grant Booth calmed down a bit. He was still very angry with his son, they were talking about his expulsion! But he understood how Garrett was feeling. He, at this point, would do anything to take care and help his wife get better. "Fine," he finally said. "On Monday you'll go to SCH and register with the school." Garrett looked up at his dad in surprise. "You mean it? I can stay here in Swans Crossing?" Where else will you go, Grant wanted to say, but kept it to himself. "Yes." Garrett's heart jumped. He could stay! And be with... Garrett just smiled at the thought. He jumped up and wanted to call and tell his friends the good news. "But, um, Garrett." Grant said, breaking his happy bubble. "You do realize that you have to be punished for what you did, don't you." Garrett looked uneasily at his father. "Um, yeah. What is it?" "Your allowance will be provided by your job." "My job?" Garrett asked stunned. "I have a job?" "You're going to find one." Grant corrected, smiling slightly. Garrett gulped. A job? For him, Garrett Booth? He was in trouble now. : : : : : : : : Sydney was wandering around the ground floor of the mansion, doing nothing much in particular. After she and Garrett had gotten home, she remembered her speech and just rushed it, saying a few words about team work, and moving on, thanking people, nothing special, and for once, it didn't matter to Sydney. As she walked past the dining room, she happened to glance out the window and see the Booth manor next door. She could barely see anything, but that didn't stop Sydney from wondering what was happening between Garrett and his father at that very moment. "You seem to be preoccupied with the Booth's lately," Margaret Rutledge said, startling her daughter when she suddenly appeared behind her. "Mother, you gave me a start." Sydney turned around to face her mother. She flipped her hair behind her shoulder. "Nothing much, I just hope Glory and Garrett are doing okay, with their mother being very sick and all." Margaret looked at her daughter skeptically, not believing what she said much. She walked a few steps before casually commenting, "you've been getting a lot of mail lately from Garrett Booth, haven't you?" Sydney swallowed, wondering where her mother was going with all of this. "I'm just trying to be a good friend to Garrett. With everything that he's going through, he needs one." But her mother just frowned. "I don't want you to be associating with Grant Booth's son. There's absolutely no telling of what he might pull." Sydney became angry. "Garrett and I are friends no matter what you tell me! Whatever rotten things that Garrett has pulled that you disapprove of, I am just as guilty of doing as he is! But we've both put that past us, and we're not letting that idiotic feud decided for us! We've grown up and put the games and arguments behind us, I just wish you and Mr. Booth would do the same!" Before Margaret could say anything else, Sydney continued in a more calmer voice. "Besides, mother. You're always telling me about our country's problems, how we should get along with each other." She stepped closer to her mother and took her hands and gave her her winning smile, the one that no one could ever refuse. "Well, how do you expect countries to get along, if neighbors can't even do that?" Margaret beamed at her daughter, proud of her being so strong and precocious. She hugged her tightly. "You're right, Sydney. Thank you for making me see that. I won't get in the way of your friendship with Garrett, and I promise I will try to be nicer to Grant... after the election." "Mother!" "Just teasing, dear." The two laughed and hugged again. : : : : : : : : Mila forced a smile as she and Dick, who were seated in one of the tables at the Soda Shop, talked... about him. She inwardly sighed. It had been the same thing, boy after boy, they only talked about themselves, not even asking Mila about herself! At first, Mila had always been too excited about being with them to care, but now, Mila wanted something else. She wasn't sure when her attitude about her new boys had changed. Maybe it had been when she saw Sydney earlier, with Garrett and Callie. They had all been having fun, something Mila had rarely felt. She hadn't hung out with the core group in awhile, and she missed it. She had felt pushed out of the group, misplaced since it was different now that summer was over, but maybe she had been the one to push them out of her life. Mila had always had rotten luck with guys. Before her self-centered guys she had met during the school year, there had been Garrett and Billy Gunn. All in all, it said a lot. Maybe she just wasn't dating material. She thought about couples like JT and Glory, and Callie and Jimmy, they were so perfect. She thought back to summer, when everything was perfect. She didn't like the person who she had become. She was upset that she had disappointed Owen for abandoning the band when the concert was tomorrow. She was upset that she hadn't been spending time with the people who cared about her most. She didn't like who she pretended to be, just for the sake of the guys she hung out with. She didn't want Garrett either, somehow she got the feeling that he had cared about her, just a teeny bit more than her new "friends" do. He could be good for a friend, but never a boyfriend again. Mila wanted something else, and she knew where to get it. She stood up from the table, surprising Dick. "Wait, where you going?" he asked. "Somewhere, away from here. Sorry," she said half-heartedly, and hurried out the Shop for Owen's. : : : : : : : : Sandy and Mick had finished up practicing in the park and had decided to head over to the Soda Shop to celebrate their successful practice and for good-luck for the concert. Things had gone so well. Sandy didn't even mind when she had seen Owen "pass-by" their practice. She wasn't going to be competitive and spy on what he was doing, she just hoped he wasn't doing that either. Saja had also been on her mind. It hadn't been hard to often think about him. One of the songs was about two best friends, a girl and a guy who end up liking each other. The song gave Sandy so much hope. Also, the SCH baseball team was practicing a few feet away from them. In between breaks, Sandy and Mick would talk, getting to know each other better, and Sandy learned of his girlfriend was Glory's classmate, although he wasn't in any of her classes, he had some classes with Saja, which got her thinking about him again. Sandy began to wonder why all she could think about was Saja, even while she was with this cute guy who was really nice. Every time Sandy thought of him, her heart raced and hoped she'd see him soon. I guess I do really like him a lot, Sandy thought to herself, smiling. "What are you smiling at?" Mick asked her, breaking her thoughts and bringing her back down to earth. "Huh?" When Sandy realized she was talking to him, she replied with a stutter, "Uh, um, o- oh nothing. Sorry, I was just thinking about something." They laughed and continued on their way. : : : : : : : : Garrett was wandering around the park. Well, that was what he told everyone who asked him what he was doing. He didn't want to tell them that he was going to check on baseball practice, he didn't want to seem obvious that he ached to play on the team again. As he reached the baseball field, he saw all of his old teammates, sitting in the dugout, batting, pitching, running around the bases, catching. He watched as Saja threw the ball to the mitt, missing the target by a lot. Garrett knew Saja wasn't as good as he was, but he had to admit, he wasn't that bad. He must have been distracted by something. Garrett longed to pick up the ball and be the one to pitch. It was his fault really, if he hadn't showed off for Sydney, he might have still been on the team. Garrett looked back at those times, and instead, didn't feel resentment, but he knew he had learned a lot, or rather he should have, just not at that time. Garrett had just caught the end of practice, he knew it, as he watched Coach Gromme blow on his whistle, and call the team around him in the middle of the field. He knew what was coming up soon. There was a game with Newport on the eighth, that was this Saturday. Coach Gromme was going to announce the positions of the team at the game, which included who would be the starting pitcher. : : : : : : : : JT slid to home base, tired but happy. It had been a great practice, helping him get his mind off of the recent events. JT knew he had done great, and he felt he was ready for the game against Newport. As soon as he stood up, and cleaned his pants, a shrill whistle came from Coach Gromme and he called the team over for the end of practice. "Well, team, you did great today, I'm proud of you. Surprisingly, since this is the first practice we've had in a whole month," he couldn't help but comment. "All of you are doing just great, even better than before. I know you're ready to take on Newport again, just don't be too confident, and do your best and we'll win!" The team cheered. "Now before I send you poor, tired men home, I'd just like to announce your positions for Saturday's game." Coach Gromme droned on about the line-up, and the outfielders and et cetera. JT's leg bounced nervously. More than anything he wanted the chance to prove to his team that he could do it. He wanted to be named the starting pitcher. He had a chance now, now that Garrett was gone. "...and finally, our starting pitcher will be... JT Adams," the coach concluded. JT's teammates cheered and clapped him on the back. JT smiled. Wait till he told Glory the good news. She'd be thrilled for him. : : : : : : : : Owen was practicing playing the songs they would perform for the concert. That was, if Mila actually showed up for the concert. The way she had been acting, Owen would only be surprised if she came bounding down the stairs apologizing and asking if they could practice. Just then, Owen heard footsteps on the stairs. He froze when he saw Mila pop her head in the doorway. "Hi," she said shyly. Owen just stared at her. Mila walked inside. "Look, Owen, I'm really sorry for the way I've been acting lately. I didn't mean to put you and the band down, and to disappoint you by not helping, I've just... things, just happened." Owen stared at her. I've got to do something about the way I think, he thought to himself. "Um..." he tried to say. "I know it'll be hard for you to forgive me for what I've done, I just hope that you give me a chance and that we could practice for the concert tomorrow. I know I've wasted a lot of days already, but I promise I'll give one hundred and ten percent to this." Owen looked at her carefully. He knew that she was sincere. This was the most sincere he had ever seen her. It wasn't her winning smile anymore that convinced him, in fact, Owen realized he didn't even have a crush on her anymore. But she was a friend of his, and that was good enough for him. He smiled at her. "Well let's get to work!" Mila smiled back at him and jumped to help him with the equipment. : : : : : : : : Unfortunately, because of their absence, work had piled up at the Tool N' Die. Callie and Jimmy were walking hand in hand to the Tool and Die, talking about the fate of the shop. After Barek had been in Swans Crossing long enough to finally catch the Baldies who were after the Ub2b Project that JT and Neil had been working on all summer, he had to leave Swans Crossing to work on another case. Even though Fats had not returned, he trusted Callie and Jimmy to run the shop themselves. He knew how smart the two actually were. "So Callie, you have to fix Ralph's jet ski by tomorrow, oh, and while I go and run a few errands, you need to recalibrate the revolver for the concert stage, then I'll tell you what to do next." "Excuse me Jimmy? Barek left US to run the Tool and Die, he didn't leave you manager." Callie released her hand from Jimmy's grip and took a step backwards. "Well, out of the two of us, I have been here longer, so it goes without saying that I am in charge now." "Jimmy, just because you are a guy, and just because you think you know more than me, it does not mean anything. In case you don't remember, I was the first one to suspect that there was anything going on with Barek." "Yeah, and you were wrong, he was investigating undercover, but he was on OUR side. I knew that this wouldn't work out!" Callie opened her mouth in shock. "Well, its nice to see how much faith you had in our relationship" and with that she turned and started walking the opposite direction. "Hey, where do you think you are going?" "It slipped my mind, but I promised Glory that I would meet her before JT came over her house. Goodbye." Jimmy watched her leave. Suddenly he was hungry himself. Jimmy walked into Swan Soda shop with the intention of picking up an egg sandwich, then heading back to the shop. But no sooner had he walked in then he saw Sophia Eva McCormick DeCastro, older sister of Saja, and his former crush. Jimmy had always had a crush on Sophia, but it was only because she was older and really pretty, and when Jimmy met Callie he realized that his feelings for Sophia were simply a crush and that Callie was the type of girl he knew he could fall in love with someday. "Alone Jimmy? Where's Callie, aren't you two children usually attached at the hip?" Jimmy sighed. "Sophia, I really don't want to talk about it." "Trouble in paradise? Why don't you have a seat and I'll try to cheer you up?" "I don't think so, I was just going to pick up something to go, I don't have much time to spare" "For me?" Sophia pouted and looked into Jimmy's eyes. Suddenly he was mesmerized by this older girl, and he had no choice but to sit down. When he did, Sophia smiled to herself. She had caught Jimmy, now all she had to do was have him get caught red handed. She didn't really like Jimmy, but she liked attention. Jazz came to the table. "What can I get for you?" she said, and then she realized Jimmy was with Sophia. She raised her eyebrow at him, causing him to lower his head. "The pancake special" he mumbled. "Nothing for me" was Sophia's reply. "Ok, one pancake special coming right up" said Jazz, and left. "So Jimmy, tell me all about it. Tell me what she did to get you into this mood." "Well, see, she always jumps to conclusions, and she is so stubborn, she never lets anything go. She won't let me take charge for a second. We are so much alike though, and maybe thats the problem. Maybe I need someone who is less like myself and more like..." he stumbled. "Like....me?" Sophia said, with a sly smile. "Well, more like you than like her." was Jimmy's reply. Suddenly a voice came from behind him. "Nice Jimmy, real nice." It was Glory. Jimmy then turned his head just enough to see the door to the soda shop swing shut, and a mane of dark brown curly hair leaving. To himself, Jimmy realized that he had blown it. : : : : : : : : Garrett was still wandering by the baseball field, even after many of the players had left already. Soon it was only Coach Gromme who remained, and he was getting ready to leave. Garrett saw his opportunity and ran to the coach before he left. "Coach! Wait up!" Coach Gromme turned and saw Garrett. He smiled. "Hey Garrett, how've you been doing? When did you return?" "Hey Coach! I just got back from France." He paused for awhile, and looked toward the baseball field. "I caught the end of practice, the team looks pretty good." Coach Gromme smirked at him. "But not as good without you." "I didn't say that," Garrett protested. "But you were thinking it." "Actually, no." Coach Gromme pretended to be shocked. "Garrett Booth, humbling himself? Are you sure you're him? Don't tell me suspending you from the team actually helped?" Garrett made a face. "And that period of suspension is over, common Coach, please, put me back on the team!" Coach Gromme thought for a moment, Garrett thought he would die of suspense before the coach gave him his answer. "Well, the team is already pretty bonded, I'd hate to see it destroyed if you enter and they're fighting again, choosing sides between you and JT...." Garrett wanted to tap his foot nervously, but refrained himself. Instead he crossed his arms over his chest and tapped with his fingers instead. "I won't promise you any good positions, and you'll have to work extra hard to keep up with what the team's been doing." Garrett just nodded. "And I don't want you causing any more trouble, otherwise you're off the team permanently." Garrett would have hated the coach's guts for the way he was making him sound, but he knew it was his own fault. And even though many had given Garrett this same speech, people that he now hated, the coach had a grin, and it was hard for Garrett to be mad. "Then you're on the team again." Garrett smiled. "Just don't let me down, son." "I won't Coach. You have my word." Garrett felt like jumping inside. Things were slowly going his way. Now if only his mom would get better, and the girl he dreamed about would be his....
