The Past is But a Prologue:
A Return to Swans Crossing

Mayor Rutledge:
Welcome back to Swans Crossing. It has been around 18 months since you
last left us. A lot has changed in our little town, a long time that has
foreseen many changes. I suppose it is my duty, as mayor, to inform you
of these changes.
I will begin with my daughter, Sydney. This is very awkward for me, for
as truth be told, she is no longer my daughter. Well not physically, at
least. As you may have realized, apparently there was some sort of mix
up at the Swans General Hospital the day my dear daughter was born. It
turns out that my daughter is actually the physical child of the Swans,
the oldest family in town. Their daughter, Sandy, is mine. Of course,
you cannot uproot two children after 15 years; so, we have decided to
keep our children in their homes. However, I have set up a considerable
trust fund for Sandy, so she will never have to want.
Our next-door neighbors are still Grant and Cornelia Booth and their
children. Poor Grant…after losing the election he seems almost like a
broken man. Of course the fact that his son caused him the election by
the blackmailing of my Sydney has taken quite the toll on his family.
Garrett was sent off to boarding school in France, although he was only
there for a few months, probably expelled for doing God knows what. And
then there is sweet little Glory. She hasn't been around the house
recently, although I am quite worried for the girl. The last time I saw
her, she seemed impossibly thin.
Her boyfriend is still J.T. Adams. Now there is a smart young man if
there ever was one. He and his friend, Neil Atwater, created a self-
propelled rocket fuel, bringing Swans Crossing to the map. They are
continuing their work on related projects, and will probably win a Nobel
Prize some time in the future.
Owen Fowler and Mila Rosnovsky formed a band without Sandy. Sadly, it
only lasted a few weeks. Their first (and last) appearance was on
Election Day. God have mercy on whoever told that poor child she had a
good voice.
Bobby DeCastro is dating my Sandy. They are quite the couple, very
inseparable. He seems to be doing quite well, having redeemed himself
and forgetting this nonsense about alternate identities.
Nancy Robbins is once again dating Jimmy Clayton. It seems strange to
me, knowing Nancy very well myself, that they would be together again.
But I suppose everyone needs someone to hold while one is recovering
from a loss. And poor Jimmy, I don't know if he will ever quite recover
from losing Callie.
I don't think any of them will. The night they lost Callie will forever
be imbedded in their brains. They all think they are partly to blame,
because no one believed anything would happen, as ridiculous as that
notion is. No one could have stopped what happened that night.
But still, I believe a part of them died the night that Callie took her
own life.

the town of Swans Crossing, nothing is ever quite as it seems…
