~*~*~*~*~*~
Sydney sat anxiously in her first class plane seat watching the
seconds tick away at her watch. She glances at her sleeping best friend
Callie Walker who is sitting in the seat next to her, "I wish I could
get some sleep," she mutters to herself, "that would really pass the time."
Sydney and Callie were going home to Swans Crossing. They had finished
their first year at University of California San Diego three days ago and
were now returning home. The only real home both of them had ever had.
Sydney just knew that a wonderful summer awaited the two of them. She
and her "gang" would be together again, and most importantly, she would
return to the arms of the love of her life, Garrett Booth. She and
Garrett broke off their steady relationship the night that he left for
George Washington University in D.C. but made a pact that the two of them
could date whomever they wanted but in the summer they would be together.
Their hearts belonged to each other and that was very evident in the
frequent phone calls and e-mails they had with each other. Sydney had
dated a few guys in college, but it was never anything serious with any
of them and none of them compared to Garrett Booth.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nancy walked into her bedroom for the first time since she left
for college. She never came back for Christmas break, much to her parents'
dismay. She just couldn't stand the thought of hearing Sydney, Callie,
Glory, and Garrett talk about their college achievements over egg-nog at
the Swan Club, while Nancy was struggling to stay afloat in all of her
classes. Nancy spent the first three months at the University of Florida
partying with her sorority sisters, working on her tan, and flirting with
every rich eligible bachelor that came her way. She didn't actually start
concentrating on her classes till too late. She only passed 3 out of her
6 classes, and that was with low D's and C's. Her parents decided that
she wouldn't be attending the University of Florida the next year and
enrolled her in Swans Crossing University. The campus was fifteen minutes
away, and close enough so they could keep a watchful eye on her daughter.
They are even making her live at home. She grimaces at the thought. Nancy
pulls out her pack of cigarrettes and quickly lights one, "Here's to a
boring summer hanging out with people that I really couldn't even stand
to hang out with in high school."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Jimmy waited eagerly for Garrett's plane to come in at Gate C-5
at the airport. Jimmy had an awesome year. Unlike the rest of the gang,
he took a year off from school and spent the year bumming around Europe.
It was just him and his bike and the friends that he made along the way.
Only one thing had been missing from his trip. Callie! His soul mate. At
times he missed her so much he could feel it in every bone of his body.
Many nights he would lay awake and stare at the picture of the two of
them at the Senior Prom. He carried that picture around with him wherever
he went. "This summer she and I are going to get together and make
everything right between us," he vows. Jimmy had applied to University of
Southern California for next year and got accepted. Even though he and
Callie would not be at the same school they would still be in the same
state and only about an hour away from each other.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Glory brushes her hair slowly and smiles at herself in the
mirror. Out of all of the gang Glory had probably changed the most over
the past year, and this was something she prided herself on. Before
graduation Nancy point-blankly informed her that she and JT had an alcohol
filled night of passion on the senior ski trip.
When she found out, Glory promised herself that she was going
to develop a backbone, change her image, and not let people like Nancy
and JT stomp all over her. She enrolled herself at University of
Chicago-Illinois and made a name for herself. She was no longer the shy,
quiet, conservative Glory Booth but one of the most popular and social
girls in Wyndham Hall, the Co-Ed dorm she resided in and was always ready
for a good party. She also made a name for herself in the theater
department, and has starred and had supporting roles in all of the plays
they put on this year. "Watch out Swans Crossing," she says to herself,
"I ain't the same girl that used to live here."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Mila stares at the plus sign blankly as her shaking hands hold
the pregnancy test wand. "No, this can be happening. Not to me." She
drops the test in the trash and throws herself on the bed. "How could I
be so stupid." Mila lays on her bed and thinks about the year that
passed by. She attended New York University as a Psych. major. JT also
attended NYU and they started to spend a lot of time together. The only
familiar face that Mila knew. She clinged to him for comfort when
feelings of homesickness rushed over her, and soon their relationship
became more than friendship. They became lovers. She didn't love JT, and
she knew that JT did not love her. They didn't even have an exclusive
relationship or any type of relationship at all. JT had made quite a name
for himself with the ladies and Mila dated other people frequently, but
every now and than she and JT would get together and these get togethers
usually involved a lot of making out which led to sex. And now JT was
the father of her baby.
