Callie sits in her father's empty den and picks up her phone to call
Grant. She dials the first five numbers and than quickly hangs up the
phone before she can finish the number.

Callie had never ever thought that she could fall for a person like Grant
Booth. He had just started his senior of college at UCSD when Callie and
Sydney entered as Freshman. Grant had been sort of like a big brother
type to the two of them in the beginning. He looked out for them,
introduced them around, and made sure that they were adjusting to life
on the west coast. At first Callie had gotten irritated at Grant's
constant hovering presence, till she found out that she was going to have
to take Business Management in her second semester. Tutoring by Grant
became Callie's only chance of passing that class and Callie discovered a
side of Grant she never saw before. A side that caused her to start
caring very deeply for him. They soon began to date, but never expected
it to go very far because Grant had an opportunity to study in England
the next year and intern at a company. They both knew their relationship
was going to have to come to an end in June, and it did. But, now with
Grant not going to England, Callie knew that he would expect for them to
get back together.

Callie picks up the phone once again, takes a breath and dials his number
at his San Diego apartment.

"Hello," comes a deep male voice through the phone line.

"Hey, Randy it's me Cal."

Randy was Grant's roommate and he was probably the one who convinced
Callie to acknowledge her feelings for Grant, "I knew it was you. You
don't think I recognize your voice by now? Hold on, let me go get Grant.
He's been waiting to hear from you."

"Thanks Randy."

Callie waits nervously till she hears someone pick up the phone, "Callie,
hi. I miss you."

"I miss you too," Callie say's quietly in the receiver.

"But, probably not as much as I miss you considering you have Jimmy
hanging onto your every word."

"Grant, don't be like that."

"Fine, I won't. You can't blame me for getting jealous. The person I
think I could spend the rest of my life with is across country making
time with her first love."

"So, what happened with the internship," Callie say's trying to change
the subject.

"It's a long story," Grant mutters, "Let's just say I was getting screwed
out of the deal. No biggie though, England is to dreary and rainy
anyways."

"You sure your not upset, I know you were looking forward to it."

"Nah, it was more like my dad was looking forward to it. Anyways, enough
with the small talk. I feel like I am talking to my sister. Tell me, do
you want me to come out there for the summer."

"What do you mean," Callie questions?

"I think you know what I mean. If you want me to come out there it means
that you want to continue our relationship, but if you don't it means
that you want to start things up with your ex-boyfriend again."

Callie sighs, "I'm not sure. Grant, I love you. But, right now it's not
with my whole heart. Jimmy still has a portion."

"Callie, that is fine. I understand the bond you two have, but just
because you still care for Jimmy doesn't mean that things will work out
in the long run for you two. You will be saying goodbye at the end of
summer. What is more important to you? A summer fling or something that
could really go somewhere with someone who has long term plans for a
relationship with you?"

"Can you give me time to think about it? I just need time."

"I will give you time, but not the whole summer."

"That's fine. Well, I should go now. It's getting late here and I am
still kinda jetlagged."

"I love you, Cal. Bye."

Callie hangs up the phone slowly and stares at her prom picture sitting
on her father's desk. "Grant is right. What worked back than might not
work now."

J.T. and Nancy are sitting in Nancy's black convertible parked on a hill
overlooking the city.

Nancy holds up the champagne bottle she stole from the country club,
"Here's to a terribly lame vacation, in a dull town, with even duller
people."

"Aww, Nan. don't get all negative now. I'm sure we can find something to
spice up our lives this summer. You and me could always be creative when
it came to the bare minimum."

"Well Mr. Adams, what did you have in mind," Nancy leers.

J.T. leans closer to Nancy and kisses her roughly on the mouth, and than
begins to unbutton her blouse between kisses. They are both so caught up
in each other that they don't notice a car drive up.

"Well, well what do we have hear, a prime candidate for the first arrest
of the summer," a police officer say's as he walks toward the car.

J.T. pulls away from Nancy and slyly pushes the champagne bottle under the
seat, "What do you mean Officer," J.T. say's innocently. "My girlfriend and
I have been away from each other for a few months now, and we just wanted
to have a little bit of privacy."

The Officer nods, "Well, I can understand that, but than how can you
explain your girlfriend driving a 60 in a 30 MPH zone. And while you are
explaining, you can also explain the smell of liquor on both of you and
that bottle that you just tried to sneak by me."

"Officer, were sorry. Were just trying to have a little fun," Nancy says
sweetly.

The officer glares at Nancy, "Well, your type of fun could have killed
someone. I don't know if you are aware of the law but drinking and
driving isn't something we look lightly upon, and neither is underage
drinking. I'm afraid you two are going to have to come with me."

Saja is walking home when he sees a familiar figure in front of him,
"Sandy," he calls out into the darkness.

Sandy rushes over to Saja and gives him a hug, "Saja."

Saja smiles, "Everybody missed you at the party."

Sandy shrugs, "Ahh, you know how it is. Something came up. My agent
called and he wants me to participate in this concert thingy up in Boston
this weekend. It should be pretty cool. A lot of famous faces hanging
around."

"Isn't it your mother's birthday this weekend," Saja questions.

"You were always so good with dates! Yeah, it is but mom won't mind. She
understands that my career has to come before anything else. I mean
honestly, there will be other birthdays. When I make it in the big time
she won't even remember that I wasn't there."

"Sandy, can I ask you a question?"

"Shoot."

"Why did you let your talent turn you into something you would have hated
before?"

Sandy brushes her hair out of her face, "What do you mean?"

Saja looks her squarely in the eyes, "You know exactly what I mean. Maybe
I'll see you around this summer, and than again maybe I won't considering
your career has to come before anything else in your life. I guess that
includes your friends too."

Saja quickly walks away leaving Sandy standing there alone and confused.

"Hey, Saja wait up?"

Saja turns around and sees Glory rushing towards him, "Glory, hi. Where
did you come from."

"I've just been walking around. Looking for familiar faces."

Saja smiles, "Well, if you don't mind me saying this, your face has
gotten to be beautiful over the past year. Not that you weren't beautiful
before, but it seems as if I am seeing it in a new light."

Glory links arms with Saja, "I don't mind at all. So would you care to
walk to the boardwalk with me."

"It would be my pleasure," Saja says and he and Glory take off in the
direction of the boardwalk.

Part 5:

Mila wakes up to the smell of coffee and bacon coming from the Walker
kitchen. She gets up slowly and grabs the robe Callie let her borrow and
heads for the kitchen.

"Good Morning, Mila," Callie says with a cheerful voice.

Mila sits down in an empty seat at the table, "That smells so good."

Callie dishes some of the food out on a plate and puts it in front of
Mila, "Eat up."

Mila takes a few bites of her food and than looks at Callie's food which
consists of cereal, and cantaloupe, "Aren't you going to eat any bacon?"

Callie shakes her head, "Nope, I became a vegetarian this year."

Mila looks at her strangely, "Than why did you make me meat if you
weren't going to eat it."

Callie smiles, "Cause I knew you loved it. I don't mind cooking the
stuff, I just don't like to eat it."

"Callie, you have been nothing but sweet to me, how can I ever re-pay
you?"

"Re-pay me," Callie shrugs? "No, need."

"So, I was wondering. The only pregnancy test I have taken is the home
kind, and I know they aren't 100% accurate so I was going to go and see a
doctor today and I was wondering if you would come with me?"

Callie takes a sip of her coffee, "Of course, but what about the father."

Mila looks down, "what about him?"

"Well, I don't mean to pry but does he know yet?"

Mila nods, "Yeah he knows, he just doesn't believe that it's his. I told
him last night and the way he reacted, I don't even want him in this
child's life."

"Last night? You mean he leaves here in Swans Crossing," Callie asks
curiously?

"Callie, the father is J.T."

Callie coughs loudly, "J.T. as in J.T. Adams?"

"The one and only."

"I didn't know you two were seeing each other?"

Mila shrugs, "We aren't. It's a long story. Let's just say we have a very
simple relationship. We just have sex, and that's it."

Callie looks at Mila curiously, "So your really going to keep this baby?"

"I think so. My life has been in such a downward spiral lately. This baby
, knowing that I could have a life inside of me, it gives me a reason to
want to keep living. I can offer it a good life. God knows, I have no
financial problems, Mama might be shocked but she'll get over it. I don't
mind taking a few years off of school, actually I don't think I was right
for school anyways."

"Your so brave, I could never ever picture having a child right now."

Mila shakes her head, "No I'm not. I'm just taking responsibility for a
mistake that I made. I don't think this baby is a mistake but if I could
go back I would have never ever slept with J.T."

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Nancy and J.T. wait patiently as their parents sign papers to release them
from police custody.

Nancy's mom walks up to the two of them alone with J.T.'s dad.
"Nancy let's go."

Nancy stands up, "Bye J.T."

J.T. stands up and looks expectantly at his dad, "So, ready to go?"

Mr. Adams looks at his son sternly, "Don't stand up quite so fast. We
won't be leaving till we have a little talk. I think you and I need to
come to an understanding."

J.T. sits down, "Yes, sir."

"Son, I'm too tired to yell at you, and besides I don't think that would
help the situation any. Your mother and I are worried about you, J.T."

"Dad, this was just a one time thing."

"Don't lie to me J.T., because I know this hasn't been the only time. You
have been heavily drinking since your senior year and your mom and I
wrote it off as nothing big, just something teenagers do, but it has gone
farther than that. It has affected your grades, and your attitude.
Nancy's parents have enrolled her in SC U because of her partying and
drinking, and I don't want to do anything that drastic because I think
that you would grow more at NYU than you would here but you can only go
back next year if you agree to get help. You are going to start attending
AA meetings and seeing a psychologist."

"Dad, AA? I'm not an alcoholic and I certainly don't need to get my head
shrunk," J.T. protests.

"You will be going to a psychologist. You will not be able to get out of
that one. But I will be lenient on the AA part. You are going to see a
Substance Abuse Counselor and if she say's that you have an alcohol
problem you will be attending AA meetings regularly but if she say's you
doesn't, you won't have to go to the meetings."

"Fine dad," J.T. stands up, "Now, can we get out of here?"

Mr. Adams stands up, "Lead the way. Oh yeah, and J.T. your mother and I are
going to be taking away your car and bike this summer."

J.T. swears under his breath quietly, "Fine, fine! Whatever you say."
