                          Chapter 2: Mixed Emotions

Garrett glared at Sydney. Here he was trying to get things moving in the
right direction with each other and she was gloating over the whole thing.
He wanted to ask her to the dance, but not if she was going to act like
this. “Forget it.” Garrett says.

Sydney couldn’t believe it. He was just about to spill his guts. To ask
her to the dance and he says “forget it”. “What was he trying to pull?”
She wonders. “Come on, Garrett. I’ll be serious. What did you want to
say?” She says with a smile.

“Well, I was wondering if you had a date for the dance? I mean, if not we
could go together.” He blurts out.

“Really?” Sydney says calmly. She didn’t want to seem too anxious in
front of Garrett. After all, he might get the wrong impression.

“Yeah. But if not - that’s ok.” Garrett replies.

“Would we go out for dinner?” Sydney asks.

“Of course. I’ll go all out.” Garrett promises.

“Garrett, what is this about? Can’t you find a date? Is that it?”
Sydney pries.

Garrett couldn’t believe it. Here he was wanting her back. This dance
was the first step and here she was making a joke out of it. “You know
what? Never mind. I’ll just find myself another date. I don’t know what
I was thinking anyway.” Garrett says as he turns away.

“No, wait! Garrett wait!” Sydney yells.

Garrett stops before turning towards Sydney or walking away. Those were
his two options - which did he want to do?

Mila wasn’t quite sure why Glory was so surprised by her going to the
dance with J.T. She was dating him. “What, Glory?” Mila asks.

“I can’t believe your going to the dance with J.T.” Glory states.

“Why? I mean, we are dating.” Mila says.

“Dating? Dating?” Glory hated to think of the two of them together.
J.T. couldn’t possibly feel anything close for Mila as to what he felt
for her. There was just no way. “Mila, I know. I was just surprised,
that’s all.” Glory tells her.

“Oh, Glory. Your not mad about it, are you? I mean, if you don’t want
me to see J.T. just tell me.” Mila tells her.

“Mila it’s just hard, that’s all. I thought me and J.T. had something
really special and then he just moved on - with you.” Glory tells her.

“I see. So you don’t want to come with me to find a dress?” Mila asks.

Callie looked at Jimmy, who stood there with his mouth hanging open, but
no words coming out. She wasn’t quite sure what he was doing here.
“Could he be here because of me?” She wondered. Even that she thought
was a stretch since he barely said two words to her before she had left.

“Jimmy, what are you doing here?” Callie repeats herself.

Jimmy didn’t know what to say. He wanted to tell her he missed her and
needed to see her - he wanted to tell her he didn’t want them to break up.
She meant too much to him for them to break up. He looked at her and for
some reason she looked more beautiful to him now that they had been apart
for a short period of time. “I - I came to see my brother.” Jimmy
blurts out.

Callie’s heart sank. She was hoping he would be here for her, but it
turns out he is here for his brother. “Your brother? I thought you
didn’t talk too much?” Callie asks.

“Yeah, well - I feel bad about that. So I decided to come and see him.”
Jimmy lies.

“Oh. Well, have a good time.” Callie says and turns her back.

“Callie, wait.” Jimmy says.

J.T. keeps staring at the ceiling as Neil talks to him about Mila and
Glory. He knew he loved Glory, but wasn’t sure if he should even say so.
What if she didn’t want to get back together with him. There were so
many thoughts racing through his brain. And he didn’t understand why
Neil was so concerned about it anyway.

“Why do you care if I go to the dance with Glory or Mila anyway?” J.T.
asks.

“I don’t. Look, it’s just your a different person when your with Glory.
Your more happy. You’re more yourself. Mila isn’t the one for you.”
Neil tells him.

“How would you know if Mila was for me.” J.T. snaps back.

“Because. Call Glory. Pick up that phone and tell her you want to go to
the dance with her - not Mila.” Neil says.

Owen ignore Sandy’s comment and just sits down with her and Saja. He
didn’t quite feel comfortable with them, but they had some music to plan
for the dance.

“Owen, are you ok today?” Sandy asks.

“Yeah, sure. I’m just a little tired. Was up late studying. Don’t
worry about it. Now, what do you want to do for the dance?” Owen asks.

“Well, I was thinking we could......” Sandy starts up.

Nancy arrives at Kevin’s house for dinner. She knew she liked him, but
his house wasn’t the greatest. She wasn’t quite sure what her friends
would say about his house. What they would think of her. Her friends had
already felt like she shouldn’t see him because of the school he went to.
She rings the doorbell.

“Nancy, dear. Come in.” Kevin’s mother says.

Nancy walks in and sees Kevin coming down the stairs. She smiles and
their eyes meet. “Hi, Kevin.” Nancy says.

“Hi. You look beautiful.” Kevin says as he makes his way down the
stairs and over to her.

“Thanks. So do you.”

“Let’s all go in the living room.” Kevin’s mom says.

Garrett stopped. He wanted Sydney to beg a little for the comments she
was making. He wouldn’t let her get off too easy. So he turned around
and slowly made his back to the hole. “Yes?” Garret says.

“Garrett, I’m sorry. I - just -well, I wanted to make sure you weren’t
trying to play another game with me and you really wanted to go with me.
That’s what it is, isn’t it?” Sydney asks with a smile.
