Chapter 3: Doing the Right Thing
Nancy sat next to Kevin on a couch across from Kevin’s mom. She felt a
little uncomfortable, but for some reason she wanted his mom to like her.
“So, Kevin tells me you two go to different schools. Where did you
meet?” Kevin’s mom, Deb, asks.
“That’s right. We met at the stables.” Nancy tells her.
“Oh. It’s nice to have him bring home such a pretty girl.” Deb says.
“Mom....” Kevin says as his face turns a shade of pink from
embarrassment. Kevin’s mom just smiles and doesn’t continue with where
she was headed.
Nancy, Kevin and his mom make their way into the dining room for dinner.

Garrett smirked at Sydney. He loved to make her squirm. “What do you
think?” he asks.
“Garrett, you said you didn’t want to play anymore games. If you mean
that - it’s what I want to.” Sydney says softly.
Garrett looked at her before saying anything back to her. She was so
beautiful to him and he loved when she got furious with him. They had
been playing these games for so long that he didn’t know what the right
thing to say to her was. “Yeah, it’s what I want.” Garrett whispers.
“Really? What next?” Sydney asks.
“I guess it’s up to us - to only us.” Garrett says. He didn’t want
either one of their parents to come between what was going to happen
between them like they always had. He takes a step closer to the hole
(No Man’s Land) and places his hand inside. Sydney reaches her hand in
and places into his. She looks up at him and smiles.
“Meet me at the park tomorrow. I have a surprise for you.” He says.
“What is it?” Sydney pushes.
“Just show up at noon and you’ll see.” Garrett says as he walks away.
Sydney watches Garrett walk away. “What’s going on, Garrett Booth.”
Sydney says with a smile.

Callie slowly turns back towards Jimmy. “Yeah?” She says.
Jimmy wasn’t really sure what he wanted to say to her. “How are you
doing here, anyway?” He asks nervously.
“I’m fine.” Callie says quickly. She didn’t want Jimmy to know she
missed Swans Crossing and most of all - him.
“Good. Have you met anyone yet?” Jimmy asks.
“What do you mean? Clayton, are you asking me if I have a boyfriend?”
She asks.
“I guess.”
“Clayton, what is going on? What is the real reason you are here?”
Callie asks curiously.
“Nothing. See you around.” Jimmy says as he walks away from her -
leaving her dumbfounded.

Mila waited for Glory’s answer. “Mila, I’m sorry but I don’t think I
can. It just doesn’t feel right. I hope you understand.” Glory answers.
“Glory, do you want me to break things off with J.T.?” Mila asks.
“I can’t tell you what to do. I don’t even know what’s going on myself.”
Glory tells her honestly.
“I don’t want J.T. to come in between our friendship. It’s important
to me. Glory, do you still love J.T.?” Mila asks.
“Yeah, I do. I think I always will.” Glory replies.
“All right. I’ll call you tomorrow. I have some decisions to make.”
Mila says.
“Ok.” Glory says and they hang up.
Glory picks up the picture of her and J.T. that was sitting on the table
by her bed. “Will we ever be the way we use to be?” She wonders.

Mila picks up her phone and dials Neil’s number.
“Hello.” Neil says.
“Neil, it’s Mila. Is J.T. there?” Mila asks.
”Yeah, he’s right here. Hold on.” Neil says. Neil sets the phone down
on his bed next to J.T. “It’s Mila.” Neil tells him.
J.T, picks up the phone. “Mila? What’s up?” He asks.
“J.T., I think we need to talk. Can you come over right away?” She
asks.
“Uh - sure. I’ll be right there. Is something wrong, Mila?” J.T.
asks her.
“I’d rather talk to you about it in person.” Mila says.
J.T. hangs up the phone and then turns to Neil. “I have to go over
there.”
“Why? What did she want?” Neil asks.
“I don’t know. I will let you know later.” J.T. says as he walks out
of Neil’s room.

Sandy told Owen which songs she thought they should use at the dance and
he thought they were good ideas.
“Sounds good. We’ll get together tomorrow and practice.” Owen says as
he stands up.
“Where are you going? Can’t you stay and hang out for a little while?”
Sandy asks him.
Saja watched them. He wasn’t quite sure what was going on between them.
He didn’t think he wanted to stick around to find out, either. “Sandy,
I’ll see you later. I have some things to do.” Saja says.
“Oh, ok.” Sandy says with a hint of disappointment in her voice.
After Saja left Sandy turned to Owen. “Do you still have to go?” Sandy
asks him.
“I guess I could stay a little while.” Owen says.
“Good.” Sandy says with a smile.
Owen catches himself staring at Sandy. Ever since Sandy started hanging
out with Saja - well, it made him rethink his feelings for her. He
always thought that they were just great buds, but now he wasn’t so sure.
To be continued....
