Information: The original INVADERS FROM MARS is considered by many to be the definitive "Cold War" science-fiction film. Liberally laced with the paranoia of that era, it is not only an exceptional film, but a reflection of the sentiment of the 1950's as well. The classic is tranformed into a monstrously gripping, modern special effects tour-de-force! Director Tobe Hooper (POLTERGEIST, TEXAS CHAINSHAW MASACRE) brings his own uniquely spectacular vision to this masterful new version of everyone's favorite "alien invasion" tale! |
Plot: A courageous young boy battles the hideous Martians who have "taken over" his parents (LORAINE NEWMAN and TIMOTHY BOTTOMS) and now who threaten to subjugate the entire planet! Also caught up in the terrifying action are Oscar winnner LOUISE FLETCHER and KAREN BLACK. Truly unearthly creature design and make-up techniques blend with the astonishing special visual effects of Academy Award winner JOHN DYKSTRA. A breath-taking, pulse-pounding science fiction mind-blower! |
Final thougth: One thing that makes this movie stand out is it's ability to bring back many tidbits of the original movie. JIMMY HUNT, the boy in the original film, plays the police sergent in the remake. One line Jimmy uses when walking up the path to where the aliens are is, "I haven't been here since I was a kid." Also, while in the boiler room at the school, Jimmy pans over with his flashlight and views the original head from the Supreme Being in the original film. |
