Synopsis -- Starsky and Hutch, mismatched cops working in somewhere called "Bay City," attempt to bring down a drug dealer who has developed cocaine that is indetectable to even drug-sniffing dogs!
Short declaratory phrase in an attempt to get quoted in TV trailer, ad, or cover box --
" Owen Wilson is once again great as half of a pair of cops!"
Nate's review:
Yes, this is in fact the latest in Owen Wilson's line of "I'm the funny half of a cop partnership" movies. Think about it- the guy has been paired up with Jackie Chan twice (the Shanghai Knights movies), Eddie Murphy (I Spy), and now Ben Stiller (actually his third movie with Stiller, but first as a cop). If we can get him cast in a remake of "CHiPs" opposite Antonio Banderas, or perhaps John Leguizamo, Owen more or less hits for the ethnic cycle. But I, of course, digress. This movie actually kicked some pretty nice ass. The thing that made it so great is that it did not try to take itself too seriously at all. It is not simply a remake of the TV show, it is in fact a parody of the TV show. Think "The Brady Bunch" vs. "The Brady Bunch Movie." Same thing. The casting in this film was great from top to bottom. Wilson and Stiller are hilarious, as are Vince Vaughn, Snoop Dogg, and an unexpected Will Ferrell. This is not quite as good as "Old School," but it is definitely worth seeing. My favorite moment is when Vince is shown on an old-school phone, complete with curly cord -- in his car! Bear in mind, it's 1974 or whatever, folks. Good stuff. I feel pretty safe recommending this; it's funtimes.
